I hope and pray that we are able to pass this through in one piece. We need to give democracy a chance and not become another Nigeria. |

You know i dont just understand but if it is true that there was really a coup plot(still have my doubts)what were the plotters thinking?Yes we dont want Jammeh and all that but not another coup againe to distabilize the country,I thought we were supposed to have passed that and handle our political problems politically rather than through the gun.It just makes me sick cos I dont believe in military goverment what ever their justification is and we dont want to return to the dark old days.We have families over there and real concern about their safety and wellbeing. And again,we dont know wether it was a real coup attept or just another purge of Jammehs administration of people he considers doubtful in their loyalties. |

This is what always happens in a society that thrives on patronage. Our problem is each one of us wants to lead and that is impossible and once in power demand respect(not earn it). A society that is selfish and indifferent to needs of its poor is doomed to fail and will only export refugees. Our only contribution to the internationl family is exporting refugees and economic migrants. Interstingly, gambia does not recognise or grant asylumm to refugees. |

I personally cannot trust a word emanating from the government because they are renoune for falsifying the issues. Never transparent, accountable and very dubious.

i have read the foiled coup plot as well. i won't deny it, but at the same time, i wont buy it. the gambia miraculously has foiled so many attempted coups. my mind is telling me that this could be one of jammeh's tactics to show gambians that he's got the strength. on the other hand, my inner nature is telling me that the gambia's political future is very murky. i wonder what would have happened if this "attempted coup" had succeeded. we are still bleeding from Junkung's rule, god forbid another military junta. but i think this should be a wake up call for Jammeh. i think he has to change his plans to run for a third term. he came to power skinny and ugly. now he's fat and uglier. he's got a beautiful wife, he's got so much money, monkeys (that resemble himself) and many other animals, land all over the gambia and rest of Africa. what more does he want? brother give up. this is how it started in all the war thorn African countries. i hope and pray gambians always realise that political instability will never do us an atom weight of good.
...LET JUSTICE GUIDE OUR ACTIONS, TOWARDS THE COMMON GOOD... KEEP US GREAT GOD OF NATIONS, TO THE GAMBIA EVER TRUE. |

of course it is very disturbig to hear about violent preying on our beloved nation. coup may not be the right way for the Gambia at this time. but again a desperate person could do anything. Like some of you said it is yet not clear if this was another conspiracy of the government to get rid of those they fear. similar thing like that happened there before. or perhap trying to do something to interupt the forth coming election.but at this time what ever the case maybe, let us all pray for peace, and easy process to democracy.may the greatest lord help us as a nation to go through all these hard times smoothly.Progress,Peace and prosperity. |

In African politics one should start by taking all political incidents with a pinch of salt. One should wait for undisputable evidences, on the table, before jumping to conclusions. The African presidential throne is so amazingly cheap that ANYONE can become a president overnight. The African presidential thrones are infected with paranoia. Upon accession to the throne, most African prezzies become paranoid. Coups, counter-coups, elimination of opponents and many other ploys are all traits in African politics. I am and will always be one of those Africans that wait for evidences, beyond all reasonable doubts, of incidents in African politics. |
