Dictators, when they get extremely desperate, the next thing to impose on helpless people is STATE OF EMERGENCY. That is what Pakistan's brutal dictator has just done. It is the same thing Yahya Jammeh will do in Gambia after killing innocent citizens and squandering everything. Will Gambians have to call this peace?? We are now speeding to an abysmal doom. Greedy and senseless beings have no understanding. When we get to the worst situation, remember your role in permitting it for a start.

This is a sad day for Pakistan. Gen. Musharaf has further dis-stabilzed the country. He should pave the way for Ms. Bhuto's return to power while he steps down from the political scene.
Bhuto or possibly Sharif could then unite Pakistanis towards the attainment of democratic rule, and finally flush out Al-qaeda and other terrorists groups that are festering the Pakistani society and that region.

It was the institude of democracy that gives presidents the power to impose a state of emmergency. So if Jammeh will ever apply it, it will be in accordance with dictates of democracy.
Asalaam Alaikum bro Karamba

Big time respect to my good brother Bread Man,

I have always respected your steady upkeep in support of reality. Thank you for confirming that President Jammeh will not hesitate using his excessive powers to declare STATE OF EMERGENCY when matters get harder. Who is daring enough to challenge Bread Man, someone sharing the same computer monitor with HE All Healing Jammeh? Bread Man, I have other predictions and please correct me along the way. Respects to you.

Greetings Everyone

I see nothing much has changed Karamba were your obsessive contempt for Jammeh is concerned. However democracy facilitates a State of Emergency when the Head of State deems it to be necessary. Linking Pakistan's current policy with Gambia is silly to say the least. Every Head of State can call a State Of Emergency if there is a substantial threat to security. Pakistan's policy has nothing to do with Gambia. So what is the intention of this thread. WE All KNOW YOU ARE ANTI JAMMEH and I wouldn't be surprised if the President doesn't know it himself.

Peace

Welcome Sister Omega,

You asked "What is the intention of this thread?" My answer: Both Musharaf of Pakistan and Jammeh of Gambia belong to the same brand of cruel dictators. By the action of one (Musharaf)in the same row, there is reason to believe that another (Jammeh) can only behave in similar way. That is the reason for bringing the Pakistan situation. Now, Sinister Omega, tell Gambians that Jammeh is not corrupt and cruel like Musharaf and let some others tell you if they agree with you. I certainly don't need any votes to agree with me. I am confident that lots of people disagree with you.

Thanks Karamba,
Likewise karamba I am confident that many people feel that the bias propaganda on the internet doesn't reflect how many Gambians who are benefitting from the 13 years of APRC rule. Gambia has experienced incredible changes in this period and many people are afraid of change but it is the only constant in life otherwise things become stagnant. As for the Pakistani situation it doesn't reflect the Gambian one. As for vote seeking karamba that is an interesting concept. They say when you point a finger four others are pointing back at you. So are you seeking votes?

Sister,

This is the first time you have ever convinced me!! Bravo to you (ha, ha) You know what, you have whole portion of the ultimate TRUTH with your firm assertion that situations stagnate WITHOUT CHANGE. That people are afraid of CHANGE is a better truth about Jammeh and his club of bandits than any other person in this wide world. Why will everything change until they get to Jammeh's knot and that becomes the END OF CHANGE? If you are sincere about CHANGE, do not let Jammeh STAGNATE (your courtesy) What will you call the persistence of this Jammeh cruelty to Gambians? By the way, what is CHANGE?

jammeh vs. musharaf maybe apples. But the situation in gambia and situation in pakistan is like apples and ocra.

Democracy is about people. While gambia is definetly lacking democracy, the issue is if gambians really want democracy? Is that a priority? My experience in Gambia, many people in Gambia like jammeh. I would not say people who have power love Jammeh. People who don't have money, power like him. I guess they don't know better. Or they have other priorities. But their priorities are different from the gambians who live in foreign. I mean most people are in gambia talk about economics, jobs, money, health care, getting married, going foreign, religion etc. I have not seen much in Gambians demanding democracy, human rights etc. My relatives in Gambia like the president and I am shock. Come on these guy do not have much, economically they are not so good, they have no clue/demand about democracy, human rights and they love their president. Gambians in foreign do, but not gambians in Gambia. Lack of will for democracy and other more important priorities creates unique gambian situation.

And one priority is stability and safety. Seems like gambians may choose safety over democratic rights. No?

diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.

Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices.

Kay

i thought you were pro-musharaf who is pro uncle-sam. The problem is yankees supporting musharaf, do not want democracy in pakistan. And they are ok with the state of emergency. As long as democracy, the majority do not come to power in paki. Yankees, contrary to their claims are anti-democratic and they do not want democracy in the region. Previously they supported only dictators in the country. Imagine, democracy in egypt, jordon, iraq, saudi arabia. They would became anti-imperialist in 24 hours.

In the case of Gambia and for Jammeh particularly, there is no link to imperialism. Here is one selfish and greedy person who takes it that a country and all in it (people, land, and animals) belong to him. He is serving no other interest apart from his self bit. It is already more than 13 years and the pain is now open. He is now creeping towards a crisis situation beyond the control of his entire club of bandits. Musharaf and Jammeh belong to same brand of thugs. One is clinging unto power in Asia, the other is clinging unto power in Africa. Both share military orientation. In 13 years, Jammeh is still using his military bull power to drill innocent Gambians.

Rubbish when were you last in he Gambia? You speak as if you are speaking for the entire country. Which is not true. This is your narrow minded point of view probably underpinned by your own demise in Gambia and you are now projecting it as the country's international image. Again if Jammeh selfish and greedy then s why does he personally treat people with life threatening illnesses; provided education for the nation, given Gambian women more rights than ever before? If Jammeh is so greedy and selfish how come progresses has arrived in Gambia and the poor have got a greater slice of the cake? It is the Have's who became have not's that are screaming the loudest. Not the Have nots that are acquiring something more! Karamba as a person who seems to convincing us how terrible life is under Jammeh why is it that more and more people are moving to Gambia and are investing in land erecting Houses, doing business creating employment for Gambians. If the picture was so drastic then construction and land prices would be stagnant. karamba the picture on the ground is changing plus no one can tun back the hands of time. Negative imapcts there maybe under Jammeh he has brought so many changes and some people just don't like change to err is to be human.

Hold it there Sister Omega. If Gambians agree with your pursuit, you will have more heads to join you. The beauty about MAGIC is that perceptions can be deceiving but also consoling!!

Sis Omega, Are you the one speaking for Gambians from a very violent country like jamiaca. What is development without freedom of speech, freedom of movement! How can jammeh claim to cure Aids when he is killing Gambians at the same time, Is that not an irony! How many Gambians have disappeared under jammeh? The truth is dictators are all the same.

C'mon Sinister Jammeh'Ca,

Hear them talk, see them write. These are the true Voice of Gambia!! You have missed your platform. Be careful the wrong train may dump you at some rough station! If you would utter these words by mouth in the face of some Gambians such an insult would not pass go without you paying for it. In the beauty of cyberspace, you can enjoy the soft touch of a remote keyboard and send these insult to Gambians that the demon Jammeh is human! You are risking too much by the move to cover up a dangerous criminal in the murky person of Yehya Jammeh. Who do you think you are deceiving?? Yehya is more worried that people like yourself seek to expose him in your feeble efforts to rescue him. This is sad!

Sister, maybe i am simply unaware of the reality here.. a poorly educated lieutenant coups his way into power, burying his fellow soldiers in the barracks courtyard.. suppresses the press and opposition. disappears people. disappears money.disappears journalists.fakes democracy to get elected constitutionally and then puts a few hotels up, a few traffic lights in,and throws a few liberated dalasis around while militarily enforcing his ideas in order to give the superficial appearance of development and progress, and this is progress? oh yes, and this is the same man who is "blessed" with divine ( cos it sure ain't medical) knowledge of how to cure the most virulent, unbeatable and morbid virus in the history of man. Who raises the hopes of peasants and illiterates that he is a leader, a president, a national father figure, a doctor, an honest "politician". Wo gradually inserts himself into the position of ministers, councillors and is a self-confessed "statesman".so the electricity is a bit better. so what? you think there are no backhanders in that result? you think that this was done selflessly for the people of the land? methinks otherwise.
Truth is gambia is full of people who want to believe that the inability of others to form an effective democratic and viable opposition is just "bad luck". truth is there will never be an opposition with a chance. it will not be allowed to happen. truth is live by the sword die by the sword. How many failed coups? there will be more. else he is there til he is west afica's mugabe in terms of age and duration in power.truth is the economy is going downhill, investment is falling, prices and inflation are rising, inexperienced and unqualified people are palying with the dalasi to falsify a feelgood factor with a resulting economic catastrophe hanhging over the country. Tourism is already dropping statistically. the ministers will deny it, but everybody knows that this dalasi shuffle has hit the industry. the cotton and groundnut trade is decimated. and this is the picture of a successful leader in a succesful economy.
well, pardon me here. if i was a gambian and saw that occurring alsewhere i would be tutting and feeling sorry for the poor folk under that rule.
yet, there seem to be gambians who are not pressurised to speak in his favour, who genuinely think that he is as goosd as the propaganda he disseminates.
the signs are out there for a very troubled future.
half a neurone can recognise that.
the future is freedom of speech in gambia, an effective opposition who are not victimised and oppressed or disappeared. a free and fair election and then let the winner be the saviours.
it is mirrored all over the world in other countries and they fight long and difficult battles of many kinds to achieve a level playing field. he is a dictator. he is a megalomaniac. he is probably beginning to believe his own hype.
the education of gambians over the next few decades will determine the future.
There need come a day when the gun wielded by the ignorant and uneducated cannot suppress the will and concensus of the true patriots and citizens.
let's hope that some lieutenant somewhere in his palace has another epiphany - not that he can go on to cure every disease known to man - but that he actually needs to look after his people and will start to do exactly that. menatime, don't hold your breath, good folk out there. work hard, teach and educate your kids, free their minds and the rest will come.that was all abit long -winded, but you know what i mean.happy sunday.
