Pro-Africa Campaigner Unveils Six Point Blue-Print By Musa Barrow
Andrew Davis, a Briton who has dedicated himself whole heartedly to the cause of Africa, has outlined six points which he believes are a pre-requisite for Africa’s development. The Manchester based activist firmly believes that until and unless his six points recommendations are implemented, Africa’s chances of progress are remote. Here are Mr. Davis’ six points which, according to him, are indispensable to the development of the continent of Africa. (ii) Reparation should be given to the people of Africa. Mr. Davis said the most terrible thing to have happened to the human race was the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade. People with conscience in the West have agreed that Africans should be compensated for this terrible act. According to him this compensation should be given in the form of investment so as to raise Africa’s industry and economy. 2) Minimum wage and fair trade in Andrew Davis’ view should be defined, unfair trade should be illegal and a minimum wage of something like a pound an hour should be paid by every Western company to all its employees in Africa which includes Sub-contracting companies. Davis pointed out that it is grossly unfair that while Western companies are gaining billions of dollars as profits from Africa’s resources, people in the continent continue to live in abject poverty. 3) Western governments should stop giving subsidies Mr. Davis described the giving of subsidies by Western governments to their farmers as a criminal act, because between 1 and 2 billion dollars a day is given to rich people in the West, subsiding them in producing food and allied items. Instead Mr. Davis proposes that African farmers are the ones who truly deserve subsidies. These subsidies, according to him, would help African farmers to improve their output. 4) Stolen money from Africa should be returned. Andrew Davis noted that these are apparently billions of pounds of African money hidden in Western bank. He emphasized that this money should without any condition be returned to people of Africa. He said if the West have a policy of taking money from terrorists and return it to Western governments the same thing can be done for Africa. 5) Cultural reparation. According to Mr. Davis, not many people in the West realize the cultural damage done to the African continent by Western interference. He said it is not fully understood in the West the damage done to African culture by developing artificial colonial boundaries which cut across cultural and tribal patterns. As such Mr. Davis added that there is need to conduct a research on pre-colonial borders in Africa and some of Africa’s lost languages. He challenged Western universities to work with African universities to carry out this research. 6) Forming United States of Africa. Mr. Davis stated all African states should come together and form a single state called United States of Africa. He explained that the unity of Africa should be similar to the unity of United States of Africa. As such there should be a single central government. He asserted that the strength of United States of Africa would help force the Western companies to re-negotiate the trade deals and force these companies into a fairer trade. He concluded by saying that Africa’s vast resources should be for African people not Westerners.
