You are absoluetly right. You see when we write or speak our intention is for the reader or listener to understand . The mistake most technical or professional people make is that they rely too much on jargon (or legalese as it is called in law). Lawyers and judges are perhaps the worst ambiguous writers. Too much jargon does not help the reader understand the information. Jargon instead obscures meaning, but there are certain words called 'the terms of the trade' which are unavoidable. They just have to be used.
This is why I like you term 'simple is good'. It sounds like a trade mark, did you ever consider patenting it? |

I, like you, liked the phrase ,I took it from a Bantaba posting by someone else ages ago I am afraid I cannot remember from who I pinched it from!!

On the contrary my friend. I didn't take any offense to it.I saw the humor in it from the get go. I am too comfortable in my skin to take offense at that. I have heard people use terms like KISS (keep it simple stupid) before. Your signature is another iteration of that. But like Kayjatta said above, most of the lingo used is terms of the trade. You assume readers/participants of a science and technology forum will have an inkling as to what you are driving at and therein lies the problem...assumption. I will try to keep it simple while you sip on that wine.... |
