Aaw, thanks for that Fader Abraham ... it brought back memories of the times when I would sit and watch these cartoons with both my 'girls' - they were totally entranced by the Smurfs (they're now 29 and 26!) |

HIV...er..they should be more worried if you moved to Brighton. Statistics don't lie after all.
Sorry Bev but you don't need your parents' blessing at your age. What are you going to do, die saying what if? But it's clearly you standing in your own way and you don't need a message board to tell you that. For god sake grow up. Gambia is not the answer to your problems. |

If you look at the date of my original posting it was more than a year ago. The financial situation in this country has made my decision for me. I can't sell my house which means I cant do VSO and cant support the nursery building project that I wanted to do. Counting my blessings: I have two lovely daughters, a great dog and cat , a roof over my head and a job. This Xmas I will have been divorced 3 years. I am finding my way in the world on my own and doing OK. |

Hmmm. Well. I am well over fifty. Have no pension rights because i was a foster parent for so many years. Lost my house in Uk due to the recession. VSO thought I was not suitable for them because i had no experience as a nursery teacher. So I took a Masters in Early Childhood Education and am now doing a PhD on early years education in The Gambia. I just moved here and found nearby schools and got involved. My mum would never have approved and my dad does not understand. My siblings are just puzzled. Today I went down the village for something and was surrounded by children who knew my name. I was not just a toubab. I would not change my life for anything. If anyone is coming out soon please could they bring some cream of tartar and food colouring. I need it for play dough. I will pay for it.

Brufut Jo, do you live in Brufut? Do you go to Diana nursery?
I wish you luck in your new life. Do you have children and what do they think? |

Yes I live in Brufut but don't know where the Diana nursery is. I have grown up children who are not at all suprised at what I have done. Whether they approve or not I don't know. Yesterday the kids at nursery were fascinated by the word 'amphibian' and went home chanting the word and wearing frog masks they had made. This morning I went for a walk in the sunshine and everything around here is so green and fresh and beautiful. People all moan about the rainy season but I think it has been wonderful. For me, this was the right choice. |

Yes I need it for play doh. I have already had one offer but am aware that people have limited luggage allowance when they come out. Still. If people can just bring a little the kids will end up with enough. And its not a school that is supported by any charity. Just by the local community. Thank you. I also enjoy your postings. |
