karamba , we are living in a new age ,yahya will be surprise by the extend of peoples willingness to unearth his crimes .before we would have said ,let us leave it to God but in reality God help those who help themselves .we will continue to write about his misdeeds ,not because we love to but we have to .
to maintain the his crime hegemony and for him not to encounter any defaince is a weakness on our side .i am happy for the fact gambians have taken a stance ,some may see it as useless and ineffective but in reality ,the ink is migtier than the gun .karl keep up the quality stuff .

Karamba and Santanfara,

I can assure you, your words do echoed louder and clear to many sincere compatriots home and away through this forum than you could think of.

Brother Santan, you quite right, there is no magic formula "God only help those who help themselves. Citizens everywhere should take the responsibility and evaluate the situation on the ground to write/speak up louder than ever before taking pratical steps just to indicate to Despotic political leaders we're not weak as they potrayed Gambians.

We need just one true weapon as peace loving Gambians as far as the situation is concern, ie; show of togetherness as we move forward in our effort to put things right now and forever.

A little bit of history about my support for democracy and in this case the democratically elected govīt of the day.
April 1994 announcement that the people of Brikama will have to pay for street water. April 30 people of Brikama demonstrated for the first time against the idea. It was quiet thru the whole of may. Then come june and Sir Dawda was on holidays in the UK and the then minister of local govīt announce that street water must be bought by Brikama residence. June 10 meeting with the Chief Dembo santang Bojang at his residence, an agreement was made that every street tap will be put under the responsibility fo a land lord near the tap. This land lord must report to the area council his or her acceptance by the 30th of June. June 25, all street taps except one almost opposite Imam karamo Touray of Brikama was closed by the area council without consultation. June 30 Thursday, demonstration by the people of Brikama and 32 people were arrested and thrown in cramp cells at the Yundum police. 14 in each cell and the other 4 including my humble self were sent to Bundung police to be eaten ther by the mosquitoes. A.I.G Chongan was there at yundum with the then commande C:I:D Pa Mbye. Friday 30th a court was arranged under a mango tree at Yundum our charges were, rioting, unlawful assembly and destroying public property. 2 pleaded guity and the case was adjourned. Bail was set at D500 with 2 Gambian sureties.
To be continued later to where Jammeh came in the picture.

Bread Man,

It was only your shadow that came up. Now you are fully exposed. Your humble self behind bar !!! Does that justify a coup by powers of which Yahya Jammeh continues stealing our monies and killing our good sons and daughters of the nation? Now we know where you are coming from. Will you still want to be considered a nationalist? Dear good fellow, Bread Man, it does not take a wrong to correct a wrong. Your this statement is very much implicating to state the least. The issue at hand is about Yahya staging an illegal coup and now continuing to kill and rob Gambians? That is what we are standing to argue. Can you justify that because Jawara caused some Gambians to suffer, Jammeh is right to kill the rest of Gambians, Ghanaians, and others? Come on Bread Man, this one is too far!!

Jammeh has no right to kill and if he has done those killing he will one day pay for it. All am saying is that Jammeh too deserves the benefit of the doubts. And I came up with this little history to get to a point and not in defence of Jammeh or the coup. You should wait to the end of the story. Just a little patience brotherman.

Abraham Lincoln was considered one of the fastest readers in his times. His secret was that when you sold a book to him, he picked the gist from the title. Next he read the table of contents, followed by the opening paragraph. Finally he read the last paragraph. If you ever thought he did not consume your story, you better be warned.

Ok my brother, lets hear the rest, but for now all i can say is thank god you are still alive to tell your side of the story. Had it been now the era of Jammeh, you and your comrades could possiblly face something even more serious than what you went through. What you went through in those days was not right in any sense as you were innocent citizens exercising your civil rights to challenge the authorities for an unfair treatment.

Please, all I want you to remember is that, doing thesame act nowadays in the Gambia you could have been confronted with more serious brutal consequences just like many fellow citizens who become daily victims just doing what you did then in Brikam.

No wonder you hardly hear of any demonstration in present day Gambia under Yahya's watchfull eyes. Obviously, there are daily issues worthy of peaceful demonstrate but who dare to venture. Take the example of our dear brothers and sisters, the student demonstrators I mean!!. Breadman, you would have had very slim chance to narate your story. This is the hard fact under present regime brother man.

Probably true Karl. Continuation:
Dembo Karanyima Bojang of Brikama was one of my sureties and we were granted bail to appear on the adjourned date around the middle of July. On the adjourn date we appeared in court but our then lawyer Ousainou Darbo could not appear, court was adjourned again to the 26th of july 1994. Thursday 22nd July came Jammeh and his AFPRC. On Saturday 24th Jammeh announced that all those involved in that water problem are free and the case is closed. My passport, European drivers license and all foreign documents were then in the hands of the police. I then went to the police to retrieve my documents which was easily facilitated cos even the police were not in support of the states action against us. A:I:G: Chongan was the driving force that wanted to see us locked. Two weeks later I left The Gambia and my support for the junta was born. I however said to my self I will support this boys as long as they have a time table to return the country to democracy. The two year transitional program was welcomed but I got disappointed when Jammeh announced he was going to run for president. I believed he was not fit to run the country in a democratic manner as he is military and that means obey now and complain later for all gambians. Election 96 I was back home to witness the election and was one of the people that suppoprted Ousainou Darbo openly in my area. Because Jammeh was supposed to go back to the barracks as promised.
Anyway he embarked into some infrastructural development and soon did i realise that although I thought this man will not do well, he really has the countryīs wellbeing at heart and he is already doing a lot better than the former govīt did in 30 years. My reconsideration of Jammeh began although with a very guarded optimism. When I went back for election 2001,

Bread Man,

There is so much focus on the person that you can hardly pursue an objective logical case. Can't you accept that a coup is not only barbaric but equally illegal? Jammeh has never been a genuine choice, and will never be. Who asked him to stage a coup? We Gambians preferred to drag on with the process of governance (don't mistake me for PPP or Jawara government) It was possible that some day, a genuine political group would have unseated PPP or whatever party. Jammeh's bandit intervention now means he does not want to see other parties emerge. Forget about what happened before 1994. That is already resigned to hisory. This coup processed voting system is what we are dealing with. Jammeh is not genuine. Why does he choose to kill opponents? Don't waste your time in pursuit of a rotten order as in this illegal coup made government. The longer Jammeh seeks to stay on, the more Gambians get sophisticated and the harder the resistance. We have to move on and one man's desire to stay a live-president is not justifying people's readiness to allow him prevail. Expect more problems for Jammeh day by day. He knows that.
