Mawdo Demba,

So sad the news; the death of Tambajang. He was a household name and a renowned soldier that defended Gambia’s territory in 1981, during Kukoi’s assault on decency. ( So history narrated.)

To you, is the mourning of a proud son-in-law. I ask you not to make me weep, for I have known your strength, always. To your family, it is the mourning of a lovely man. To the people of the nation he dearly served, you truly lost a national icon. (Blow the horns of ‘For the Gambia, Our homeland.’ while letting down the national flag half way down in memory of that constable Tambajang.)

So tell Madam, I share your sorrows, and at a dark time like the one at hand, I found myself rolling tears down my cheeks furiously resembling the day I lost my taller shadow as a teenager. “Kuli-nafsin ejaa ekatul mawt.”-Criterion. The above verse stands alone, and even Esa Ibn Mariam (PBUH) will one day test of death, so is any nafs.

I hope the old man did enough to win Allah’s (swt) mercy, and I humbly ask Allah to show mercy to the departed soul. “Allahuma ikfirlahu” Amen.

From your associates,
-The Jallow family-

My sincere condolences to the children of the late Alhaji I. J. K. Tambajang and the rest of the extended family.

Due is to Allah (SWT) that which He has taken away and His is whatever He has given. With Him, everything has an appointed term; so have patience and seek reward from him.

May Allah (SWT) grant him Jannah.

Amen

I dont want to be political here. But i believe, that Tambajang's foresight in defending the Central Bank in the Taxi Drivers' Coup of 1981 has helped a lot in the early stabilisation measures.

If the Taxi Drivers had succeeded in looting the Central bank in 1981, then, far more reaching consequences would have been meted out to gambians.

His team of dedicated officers and men, are one of the unsung heros in our history.

“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always.”
