COURTESY OF THE GAMBIA POST
To: mail@gambiapost.net Subject: Re: [>-<] UNITY CONFERENCE/WORKSHOP......CONTINUATION; PARTS 8, 9, 10 Date: Mon, 13 Aug 2007 14:34:14 -0500
A E-MAIL FROM CHRIS
Hi Yero,
First I am going to commend you on the tremendouse effort you have been putting into this conference. I almost can't believe with all the countless discussions that have floated through this forum regarding politics that folks haven't really been very vocal about this initiative, including myself. I wanted to let you know that although I will not be in attendance for this gathering that I am aware that this is going on and I wish all folks who do make it to this event the very best.
I also wanted to inform you that I attempted to send an email to Mr Jammeh, after reading through the agenda, with a suggestion I had but, my email was bounced back with this info. Is his email missing something or is there an alternative email for Mr. Jammeh for feedback?
Thanks Yero,
Chris
[blue]REPLY
Sister Christine,
Years ago when we didn't know each other, I saw you and Cherno Bah distributing unity flyers in an unforgivable winter storm, despite being denied access to that august gathering. Since then, the two of you inspired me greatly. You probably don’t remember that, if you do, I can see you rolling tears down your cheeks about it. (Check the archives of the daily observer, if still accessible captioned, "Gambians Celebrate Independence in Minnesota." under the strong editorship of Sheriff Bojang.
Regarding the unity conference/workshop, there is a lot of cooperation on the ground. It is not the (many) number that will make the conference to materialize, it is few among the many ready to do it, while loaded with a national interest. I understand the frustration of the people after all that predicament that befell them. I totally agree with the Point’s Bite captioned “The nation First.” Since it is an “experimental rabbit,” of course many would rather be convinced first.
I will forward your mail to the vibrant Burama. The guy is strong.
Note: On a note, I will tender my resignation on the day of the conference. It is my wish only to see people together, where it fails, I didn't fail, and where it succeeds, we are all going to the moon. In fact, this conference is already successful based on the feedback gathered thus far. I dream to see a big unity force rise some day and the time will have to be up. Instead of constantly complaining about the guy, we should all come together and unite against the oppressing force. I humbled to participate with these vibrant fellows. If Allah swt should wish to see it flourish, then so “be” it. Already, many blessed the gathering.
Regards to your parents and kids, at least we miss Hassan. Don’t let Sidia get jealous about my utterance of missing Hassan, then it becomes your fault. (You smile!!)
Disclaimer: The above is only mine and not any statement to be attributed to UGAMA>
Regards, Yero.

United Gambia
So you heard the echoes, Of unity and love, What else do you need to board on? Other than the unity vehicle at hand.
Your eyes saw the light, And ears heard the good news, But you are still entangled in hypo-thoughts, As if your country didn’t bore you.
The track rails of the trains, The walkway paths of humans, The tarmac roads of cars, Are all but ways to the destination.
Isn’t it the God that can bring rains? So He [God] gives free will of the mind, So “getup, standup” like Bob would say, And unite with “mass movement of the people.”
UGAMA now showed you the way, You choose your route; to free or to enslave, Until then just remember the “freewill,” That belongs to only you.
If the God should just utter “Be!” To the matter at hand, who else of, Human breed can stand the opposite, Less you invite the wrath to yourself.
Therefore unite! Unite! Throw your dark garments away, And wear the nation’s uniform, Of our dear-The Gambia.
“For the Gambia, Our Homeland; For the Gambia, Ever True.”
Note: The poem titled “United Gambia” dedicated to UGAMA is straightforward; unity. Bob’s coming into play perhaps sounds more encouraging, for a fact, Bob Marley was a musical philosopher who liberated mentally of the millions that utilized his fresh reggae music. The call to unite would mean hearing the words and accepting the facts contained in it.

Dalton1,
Many Salutes to You
Just few days ago, I was wondering when you'd drop few more stanzas of your joyful poems. Your gift of poetry is a treasured possession. It is another good weapon to deliver useful message to mankind. In addition, your call to unity is relevant for these most trying times. |

Thank you! Thank you!! What an excellent composition. Please allow me to interpret your poem according to this well known common phrase: "united we stand, divided we fall" The massage from UGAMA expressed in your poem is loud and clear. May the Almighty, give all those calling for united front for the benefit of our homeland more strength to carry on. I think it's a good cause; that all may leave in unity, freedom and peace each day.The strong upward impact of this move will surely soon be realised across The Gambia our homeland. Well done. |

Mawdo Yero, your poem is heart warming. Your call to unity and love for our dear Gambia is enough for any body to give it the benefit of the doubt and get to work. As my failed ex. president used to echo "Kambiyankolu dow kuwo seta leh" Aleenyan Tewoo Siti" Translated Gambians its time to go to work, let's tighten our pants. Papa's call for genuine Gambians to rally behind him and went to work was received with open arms, but things were lost on the journey.
Your call to unity is a noble one and it doesn't matter who made the call. What matters is for us all in one way or the other to take the initiative to change our way of thinking. We are not to allow ourselves again to be divided if we want the best for our people.
If any people can be united, it is us Gambians who are pretty much from the same village turned into a country. Any Gambian you know in one way or the other might have come across someone you went to school with, work with or knew someone from your place. We are so interconnected and there is no reason we shouldn't be able to work together for a common goal. Please lets drop our differences and celebrate our similarities. "Those who said it cannot be done should not stop those doing it" Chinese proverb. We pray for the best. |

Kay, you addressed me like a former class mate. tell me you ain't?
But thanks to you all; bros Karamba, Carl and Baldeh. Thanks for the national flag too, Mr. admin. While it was to provoke a debate, i didn't intend to take a credit even from the poem, much more to the matter under discuss. The credit goes to all participants, including those sending e-mails and discussing matters in forums-in all honesty. But Carl gave us a perfect interpretation "United we stand, Divided we fall.", therefore lets stick to that.
Lets have Omega or Kay, swing for us another poem rejoinder.
in turn, thank you! thank you!

Dalton , I am an ex-Saints(1983- 1988) and Gambia High (1988-1990). You were probably not in that group ,but your name reminds of the English atomic theorist John Dalton. I am not sure Dalton ever wrote poems though ..., but frankly I enjoy your poems . Keep it up. |

Dalton1,
There is popular demand to see Gambia out of this accident scene where an illegal matter (July 22 coup) is being transformed for governance proper. What is missing, and seriously a problem with Gambia, is that efforts are not being harmonised. People have a common desire but their efforts are conflicting on each other. For us to move from that situation, it helps to map the way and later we determine the person specs. It is like allocating plots in a new housing estate before the location plan is drawn. Gambians like to spend more time on building the political candidate and do less about designing the political system that the candidate is meant to serve. Unless that approach is considered for change, we are bound to call it another round. If we pay more attention on the POLITICAL SYSTEM as opposed to pushing the specfic candidate profile, the better. When the population relates to THE SYSTEM, each will see what is good about improving the system. Because of the prominence CANDIDATE PROFILES prevail over everything else, we are wasting time building furniture for a building that is not even designed. We end up cracking walls and windows to fit furniture not compatible with our building design. In real life, it is happening in UK quite often that some of the new design of house furniture can only get through the window because the window is wider than the main entrance. In some instances, windows are dislocated to permit the furniture fitting. There is a separate charge for that. How this relates to our situation in Gambia is that political candidates are simple furnitures that can be replaced. The building is our main asset (in this example the country.) In short, we spend more time and resources on furniture building and less time and resources on the building that houses it. Will this help your discussions? |

Bro. Karamba,
Thank you. I share your thoughts. That's exactly where we are. The sooner we realize things, the better we will shape the future of the Gambia. Sure, no doubt, you hand is a big gunner, therefore it makes the discussion fruitful. At least, honest to matters here, and in your many threadings here. That's how you attracted many students around you.
In a matter of day, we will all be enjoying the "Unity" flyer here, and other forums, in a last call to converge the people in Chicago-God willing!

My dearest Uncle Santa,
I hope not! It's a team work, from one consultation to another. With God's surah, "Masora/consultation", there is always honesty and wisdom after every decision is adopted.
Someday, somewhere, sometime, a movement will emerge as a result of the ongoing battle for self liberation. An effort is only as it sounds; a struggle towards the positive.
A farmer can only ridge his farm, fertilize the farm, weed, and live with true hope [ while a believer] that Almighty God will show mercy with peaceful rains, and protect the crops from pests, diseases and the many other forms of destructions like winds and floods.
I will share more with you, as time permits.
Sincerely, Dalton.
