If for any thing, my bantaba colleage Santa, Gambians and their friends must truly choose their own direction; to freedom or to capture (physical or mental.) This direction cannot be an individual's work, but rather collective. Until such a time that Gambians and their friends yearn for that freedom, and to do everything to achieve that, then surely, our complains, anger and frustration over a system of Gov't sounds as funny as dreaming to build castles in the air.
I thought i could leave you hanging with the above to meditate on with your eyes closed, and reflecting truly of our current Gambia.
Have a good day, friend! Dalton |

Brother Dalton1,
Do not under-estimate your rate of progress. You are making real progress. The mere fact of conceiving this great idea and taking it so far is mark of success. Please don't give up. You may not be aware who else is standing by your shadow until the lights are fully on. Keep going. I wish you the very best of what it takes to call it success. |

UGAMA CONFERENCE WILL BE UPDATED HERE LATER ON.
Sincerely, Yero.
Courtesy of UGAMA Consortium
UGAMA: Purpose and Status/Progress
What is UGAMA?
This is not a committee. It is not a representative(s) of any group and/or voice(s) of any sectional interest. Rather is an acronym for “United Gambia” and its only self assigned term of reference is “to bring Gambians in the Diaspora together under one roof to discuss matters of common interest and of national bearing”. Membership into the organizing consortium is voluntary and open to all Gambians at all times. Membership is not formal and it has never been. Our only reason for being at it is that someone must start but everything else is open until we succeed in getting Gambians under a roof.
There was an e-mail and phone number contacts provided online for those who wanted to contribute ideas and/or participate to get in touch. An impressive number did send in ideas and others advised on how they think it can work. Thank you for these valuable contributions for the people of The Gambia. Those who want to fully participate, we hereby say you do not need permission nor do we have any set agenda besides Gambia. Please hurry-up and we are waiting.
Why UGAMA?
The UGAMA initiative is born out of assumptions that there are problems back home that would require collective effort(s) of Gambians to solve such problems. These assumptions stem from
i. the ongoing debate on various national issues especially in the online newspapers ii. the political squabble between political parties and government and amongst themselves iii. the human right abuses iv. the restrictions on participatory democracy argued by the constitution v. participation in politics is a guaranteed civic right
The above is only the motivation for the call to a meeting. The meeting (conference) will serve as a forum for sharing to agree/disagree on issues of importance to Gambia and as well establish our role in addressing such issues. This effort may only stop at an announcement of concern (statement), it may produce a Civil Society Organization/Movement to work with others on the identified issues, it may not agree on to anything and/or any other ways fit best by that gathering of Gambians.
In contrast to the news caption “Gambians in United States to Reunite NADD” by one Abba AS Gibba, on The Point Newspaper, August 29, 2007, UGAMA represent no sectional interest instead a call to debate the common issues with a view to finding a common answer. This appeared to be an erroneous representation and/or deliberate misrepresentation of facts send to that media house and all other media houses in The Gambia by UGAMA Organizing Consortium. Equally, for others who thought and/or misunderstood us as trying to reunite NADD has our purpose wrong. We are not politicians but very committed to political pluralism and the choice of political association is a matter for the individual. We are not NADD, nor are we any political party including APRC, however, individual members has constitutional rights of political association that is their prerogative to exercise in fitting manners. Once again UGAMA has no agenda other than trying to get Gambians under one roof somewhere in the near future. Whatever, the outcome of that meeting, should it ever happen, will be the agenda of the people of The Gambia and/or at least those present and/or send in their ideas/contributions.
Where do we go from here?
As stated above, our only mission is to get Gambians under a roof to discuss Gambia. We will continue on this effort and we assure this is no personal neither a group agenda nor we want recognition of any sort except the pride to contribute our part in the development of our home. This is a civic duty. Please join and do whatever you can.
After the Chicago meeting we will reconvene to discuss
i. the possible site for UGAMA Conference ii. the cost implications iii. how to mobilize and/or raise funds iv. examine the possibility of inviting participation from Gambia and elsewhere v. determine a reasonable time frame to work with vi. etc
We have no agenda, nor do we intend to dictate one. The meeting will decide what to do and/or give up in despair. Until then it is our believe that we the people of The Gambia are equal to our common problems and can be alleviated/eradicated with common commitment. We shall accept all inputs from everyone, Gambians and non-Gambians alike which compilations may or may not be publish for public consumption in preparation of the conference proper. For now all contributions can be directed at ugambia@gmail.com. We would like to warn that this is no easy task and succeed is not guaranteed in such social mobilization, therefore bear with us and help.
Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds – Albert Einstein
Let us not fall victim of the above. It is over 40 years we are yet to realize the dreams at the birth of the nation. The problem(s) and it causes are history while me and you are the answer and hopes of the future.
UGAMA

Daffeh,
the following is not an official statement from UGAMA, but my own awareness of matters regarding the whole deal of the point's reportage. The Point, for fact, was copied all the pieces that were sent to other newspapers. Why they chose to go this way, is beyond me personally.

A LETTER FROM TEMPORAL COORDINATOR
Fellow Compatriots,
In the name of God Almighty. Thank you all for answering the call by United Gambia Association (UGAMA). It is certain; it cannot be easy to sacrifice time to be here. You left all other errands to attend this gathering, therefore, accept my total appreciation and gratitude for your patriotism. You could have stayed at home like the many others who couldn’t make it here due to circumstances beyond control.
Today, with the help of God Almighty, I will share the progress attained thus far in a spirit of transparency and accountability. Mine wasn’t an aspiration for name or leadership, rather an effort on the way forward for the Gambia.
I wholeheartedly bless UGAMA, and pray to Almighty God that great men and women will realize its objectives and thereby liberate a nation [The Gambia] that belongs to all of us.
The Gambia belongs to all of us. No one should exclude him or her self in the struggle for self liberation. We cannot see a bush Fernando creeping towards our homes [thatch houses], yet fold our hands for it to consume all the goods that Almighty God created in the area. Gambians are fighting two wars; the war with the enemy and the war of lacking practical applications. The later is a disease that we must heal ourselves from if we are to survive as a sovereign nation.
Prior to what pessimists and prophets of doom thought, that there were architects behind the scene other than the pictures they were seeing. How they missed it is beyond imagination. There isn’t any rule to say one cannot call for unity, as a matter of fact, the call to unite is not on anyone’s forehead. It is the self desire to truly call and an ambition to unite in these trying times.
For the spirit of transparency and accountability, during my short term activeness as temporal coordinator, there isn’t any finance received from internal or external individuals as was initially expected. This is for the records to serve over time. Special thanks must be extended to Mr. Ebrima Dibba, Seattle, a member of the coordinating team for sponsoring the many telephone conferences we had in discussing UGAMA matters.
During the short term as observed, UGAMA succeeded in signaling a strong message of unity to all Gambians and their friends. For unity to work, it cannot be a few. All the different parties have to sacrifice and compromise parts of their beliefs, and to take shade under one unifying umbrella. In the many parts authored by different supporters of the idea of unity, it is truly spelt-out of the way forward. We should all work on getting it to work now.
Reference to UGAMA’s press release, August 30th 2007
On behalf of UGAMA and my humble self, I thank you all for your support. How I wish to mention names of some in particular for their level of support during the times leading to this day, but I rather give the credit to all, for those that contributed their parts, just like my self, did it purposely for our dear nation-the Gambia. With this in mind, I still want to salute the following for their demonstration of patriotism during times of need;
Mr. Burama FL Jammeh (Michigan), Mr. Saihou Mballow (New York), Mr. Kemo Janneh (Seattle, Washington), Mr. Ebrima Dibba (Seattle, Washington), Mr. Demba Baldeh (Seattle, Washington), Mr. Cherno Bah (Minnesota), Dr. Abdoulie Saine (Ohio), Mr. Laama Jallow (North Carolina), and to the entire Midwest Conference executive of Chicago (Illinois.)
With immediate effect [ September 1st 2007], the coordination of UGAMA's affairs is now transfered to the coordinating consortium, to which I am a part of. Upon analysis of the Survey conducted by UGAMA, the coordinating consortium will update Gambians and their friends with the progress attained.
Long Live the Gambia! Long live the true Struggle!!
Sincerely, Yero Jallow, Associate. |

Thanks to our friends in Chicago (Joe, Conteh, S. Njie), and their entire team for the great hospitality.
Great job Galleh for a wonderful moderation. I didn't know you can be that funny as a moderator. If for anything, here is a recap quote of yours after one of the speakers: "Education should make you humble."

Hey! Hey! Heyyyyyyyyyyy! what is going on here? I thought they now have something common to share, hatred for the UDP. So, what happened? See below, the point. I wish I do not have to laugh so loud like this.
Waa Juwara Hits Back At Foroyaa Tuesday 4th September 2007
Lamin Waa Juwara, the leader of NDAM, has reacted angrily to a front page story in the 3-4 September 2007 edition of the Foroyaa newspaper.
The story headlined “Gambians in the United States Dismiss Gibba’s Report as Erroneous Misrepresentation of Facts”, was a reaction to a story The Point had carried on 29 August 2007 headlined “Gambians in United States to Reunite NADD.”
The Point story had been based on an exclusive interview our reporter Abba Gibba had had with Waa Juwara. According to Juwara, who called this paper early yesterday morning, his sources are credible. And so The Point story is not an erroneous misrepresentation of facts, as the Foroyaa newspaper made it out to be.
He added that any Gambian in the Diaspora who wanted to disown his assertion was simply trading in lies. He then wondered why the Foroyaa reporter did not contact him to give balance and accuracy to his report.
Juwara pointed out that the Foroyaa reporter contacted Abba Gibba and got a statement from some people in America, yet he did not contact him for comments.
He said, “You cannot get Halifa Sallah, Sedia Jatta and Sam Sarr as editors of a newspaper and at the same time double themselves as leaders of a political party and think they can be objective. Their independence is compromised and they have been misinforming the Gambian people and if I read their focus on politics, it is all rubbish.”

From the above, it looks likes this E-mail/letter, details of which have been hidden for reasons best known to the poster, was principally addressed to Foroyaa, with only copies distributed to other media outlets. We need to know why a PDOIS/NADD media outlet is so preferentially treated this way. Any explanation for that too? or shall I take it that my suspicion has being confirmed? Notwithstanding, any belief that PDOIS/NADD and their Ayatollah could set the agenda for other parties to follow is not only fanciful but also profoundly delusional.
Thanks |

Yero, I still have doubts here. 'The point' editorial below spoke of one Mr. Dibba claiming to be a coordinator of the so-called NADD revitalization agenda. The truth is you saluted above one Ebrima Dibba of Washington for demonstrating patriotism [whatever that means] in the Ugama course but then you went on to disassociate Ugama from NADD in another article. So is this Ebrima Dibba different from the one mentioned by 'The point'? Or are you putting something under the carpet here? Let me see you demonstrate some honesty because that is the only way forward. No covert hypocrisy Please as it will never suffice.
See below 'the point' Editorial.
Thanks
Waa Vs Ugama Organisers Foroyaa Waits For Clarification Thursday 6th September 2007
This is the headline of a report written by Fabakary B. Ceesay, published in the 5-6 September 2007 edition of Foroyaa. We are compelled to reproduce the entire report because the editors of Foroyaa have been beside themselves with anxiety, even bitterness, over the matter.
Mr Lamin Waa Juwara, the leader of NDAM, has said the story published in The Point on 29 August by one Abba A. S. Gibba is concrete and that he (Juwara) gave Mr Gibba the information. [Emphasis ours] Mr Juwara made this clarification in an exclusive interview with this reporter at his residence in Brikama.
According to Mr Juwara, he was informed by one Mr Dibba that Gambians in the Diaspora intend to revitalise the NADD political party.
Mr Juwara said one Mr Dibba had informed him that he (Dibba) was assigned to coordinate the Gambians at home. Mr Juwara indicated that he knew Mr Dibba personally who he said was politically active at one time in the country. He added that he believed Mr Dibba will not take it upon himself to inform him about the developments if it is not true.
He said he could not establish the position or rank of Mr Dibba in that organisation, but that Mr Dibba introduced himself to him as the one coordinating the affair.
Asked which Mr Dibba he is talking about, Mr Juwara said he would not say his first name.
Waa said his answer to Mr Dibba was non-committal because his party branch in America was never informed about the plan, which is about to take place.
Mr Juwara insisted that his information was correct and that Mr Abba Gibba did not write any lies or misinformation. He added that he was the very one who gave that information to Mr Gibba. [Emphasis ours]
So what are the editors of Foroyaa bleating about when Waa Juwara himself has already admitted that he gave our reporter Abba S. Gibba the piece of information about Gambians in the Diaspora trying to reunite NADD? This is the second time the editors of Foroyaa have attacked us without justification. We have been ignoring them because as an international award-winning newspaper we should not be seen to be trading words with politicians who masquerade as journalists, especially when they hide under the cloak of journalistic objectivity to try to score a political point.
