America’s Independence; July 4th 1776
“….So Help me God.” Said the late George Washington at his inauguration ceremony after the British conceded to defeat at the Pennsylvania encounter. The union of the 13 states leading to reducing the “criminal rulers” at the time as mere century jokers wasn’t just a war, but was a justified fight for self-defense and desire for liberation of its people.
It is indisputable that the great nation worked hard to survive, gaining independence from the British on July 4th 1776. Since then a lot of great moments has been observed.
Perhaps independence by definition to me means evaluating the ‘successes’ and ‘failures’ of a nation from birth. By far, America traveled from slavery on Black man or enslavement by the British, to a day of almost total freedom, with freedom of speech for all.
I want to openly give my hand clap to this great nation while closing my eyes against some of the injustices recently perpetrated by some of its misguided leaders. While many critics may hold this nation for some of its controversial wars, but there is a lot to weigh the scale on which definitely qualifies this nation to be the superpower it is.
May God Almighty make this land a land for believers. Amen.
I wish all Americans, their guests and love ones all a happy independence anniversary.
"A revolution is coming - a revolution which will be peaceful if we are wise enough; compassionate if we care enough; successful if we are fortunate enough - but a revolution which is coming whether we will it or not. We can affect its character, we cannot alter its inevitability.” JF Keneddy.
With all love & Support, America Shine... Always, Dalton.

And dalton
The first person to die for freedom was a Black man Crispus Attucks. He was the first to die when towns people had a problem with a British officer regarding payment of a barbing service which according stories he never paid. The people gathereded around in protest and at the front of the crowd was Crispus who got the first bullet. A simple google search will confirm this.
In addition, Fraunces Tavern, which still stands in New York was the meeting point of the revolutionaries and belonged to a colored person of West Indies. His name is samuel Fraunces but commonly known as Black Samuel. Its was at this restaurant also that George Washington made his farewell speech to the troops when he retired as Commander in Chief. This samuel Fraunces was the first Inn Keeper at the Executive Mansion(White House) when he was appointed by George washington. I guess in compensation for his service during the revlutionary years. |

People & Events Crispus Attucks c.1723 - 1770
Resource Bank Contents
In 1770, Crispus Attucks, a black man, became the first casualty of the American Revolution when he was shot and killed in what became known as the Boston Massacre. Although Attucks was credited as the leader and instigator of the event, debate raged for over as century as to whether he was a hero and a patriot, or a rabble-rousing villain.
In the murder trial of the soldiers who fired the fatal shots, John Adams, serving as a lawyer for the crown, reviled the "mad behavior" of Attucks, "whose very looks was enough to terrify any person."
Twenty years earlier, an advertisement placed by William Brown in the Boston Gazette and Weekly Journal provided a more detailed description of Attucks, a runaway: "A Mulatto fellow, about 27 Years of Age, named Crispus, 6 feet 2 inches high, short cur'l hair, his knees nearer together than common."
Attucks father was said to be an African and his mother a Natick or Nantucket Indian; in colonial America, the offspring of black and Indian parents were considered black or mulatto. As a slave in Framingham, he had been known for his skill in buying and selling cattle.
Brown offered a reward for the man's return, and ended with the following admonition: "And all Matters of Vessels and others, are hereby cautioned against concealing or carrying off said Servant on Penalty of Law. " Despite Brown's warning, Attucks was carried off on a vessel many times over the next twenty years; he became a sailor, working on a whaling crew that sailed out of Boston harbor. At other times he worked as a ropemaker in Boston.
Attucks' occupation made him particularly vulnerable to the presence of the British. As a seaman, he felt the ever-present danger of impressment into the British navy. As a laborer, he felt the competition from British troops, who often took part-time jobs during their off-duty hours and worked for lower wages. A fight between Boston ropemakers and three British soldiers on Friday, March 2, 1770 set the stage for a later confrontation. That following Monday night, tensions escalated when a soldier entered a pub to look for work, and instead found a group of angry seamen that included Attucks.
That evening a group of about thirty, described by John Adams as "a motley rabble of saucy boys, negroes and molattoes, Irish teagues and outlandish jack tarrs," began taunting the guard at the custom house with snowballs, sticks and insults. Seven other redcoats came to the lone soldier's rescue, and Attucks was one of five men killed when they opened fire.
Patriots, pamphleteers and propagandists immediately dubbed the event the "Boston Massacre," and its victims became instant martyrs and symbols of liberty. Despite laws and customs regulating the burial of blacks, Attucks was buried in the Park Street cemetery along with the other honored dead.
Adams, who became the second American president, defended the soldiers in court against the charge of murder. Building on eyewitness testimony that Attucks had struck the first blow, Adams described him as the self-appointed leader of "the dreadful carnage." In Adams' closing argument, Attucks became larger than life, with "hardiness enough to fall in upon them, and with one hand took hold of a bayonet, and with the other knocked the man down." The officer in charge and five of his men were acquitted, which further inflamed the public.
The citizens of Boston observed the anniversary of the Boston Massacre in each of the following years leading up to the war. In ceremonies designed to stir revolutionary fervor, they summoned the "discontented ghosts" of the victims."
A "Crispus Attucks Day" was inaugurated by black abolitionists in 1858, and in 1888, the Crispus Attucks Monument was erected on the Boston Common, despite the opposition of the Massachusetts Historical Society and the New England Historic Genealogical Society, which regarded Attucks as a villain.
The debate notwithstanding, Attucks, immortalized as "the first to defy, the first to die," has been lauded as a true martyr, "the first to pour out his blood as a precious libation on the altar of a people's rights."

Turk,
it is freely written by me as sole opinion. any hitches in there?
Feel free to critique its validity or truthfulness.
In meaning, to say it's a lot of good observed, while i disagreed with some of its leadership, and the recent wars perpetrated by the likes of Texas' dxxxl; for example the illegal wars all over the globe. that i am in total disagreement with.
but lets celebrate the day. America is sweet. home away from home. land of the 'free'.

Music attributed to John Stafford Smith Words by Francis Scott Key
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Star-Spangled Banner was born out of the emotions experienced by Francis Scott Key as he watched the bombardment of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812. Key's poem, "Defense of Fort McHenry," came to be sung to the tune of a pre-existing song, "To Anacreon in Heaven," the melody of which is attributed to Englishman John Stafford Smith. The first musical edition was published by Benjamin Carr of Baltimore and titled "The Star-Spangled Banner." With the passage of time the song grew in popularity, and in 1931 an act of Congress made it our official national anthem.
Lyrics: First Verse Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there. Oh, say, does that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
Second Verse On the shore, dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep, Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes, What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep, As it fitfully blows half conceals, half discloses? Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam, In full glory reflected now shines in the stream; 'Tis the Star-Spangled Banner, O long may it wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Third Verse And where is that band who so vauntingly swore That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion A home and a country should leave us no more? Their blood has wiped out their foul footstep's pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave: And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Fourth Verse Oh, thus be it ever when free men shall stand Between their loved homes and the war's desolation! Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n rescued land Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserved us a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto, "In God is our trust" And the Star-Spangled Banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

what do you like about america most? If you disagree some, that means you agree most of the leadership? What do you agree?
Personally, I find it very difficult to understand anyone from third world country have any sympathy for US. Please enlighten me where I am wrong.
And also may I remind you not so RECENT stuff to you.
- 2 of the greatest tragedies of world history. Slavery and Native Holocoust of North America. - Atomic Bomb of Hiroshima and Nagasaki - Their support of South Africa during white rule - Support of Israel - Invasion of Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia (the holy land there must be no kafeer) - Invasion/involving/bombing Guatemala, Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, Haiti,Vietnam, Laos Cambodia, South Korea, Sudan, Grenada,Libya, Panama - Assaninations involvement, Naser, Lumumba - Causing more than 50 % of world pollution that causes global warming but not supporting kyoto agreement.
According to CIA
World GDP is (PPP) 60,710,000 AND United States 12,360,000 20 % of it while it has only 5 % of population in USA. Military Spending: USA 478Billion, World total is 1000 Billion. That means 5 % of world population spend almost half of world's military spending. Causing death and destruction.
I mean I am still finding very difficult anyone who is from third world country have any sympathy for USA.

Definitely Turk thas a "bitter pill to swallow!" not only for Dalton but to those from the so-called third world to reflect upon.
However its interesting to share this from The Point Newspaper US Ambassadors Assures Gambia Govt of US Support under http://www.thepoint.gm/headlines2113.htm
QUOTES FROM ABOVE LINK:
"The outgoing US Ambassador to The Gambia, His Excellency Joseph D. Stafford, has stated that the government and people of The Gambia could count on the support of the United States as The Gambia moves forward in upholding human dignity and freedom, promoting a free, vibrant and responsible press, and strengthening democratic institutions."
Is it just talking politics and diplomacy or helping in enabling the environment

What other independents of others. Well that depends. Yankees who celebrate America's independence do not care about other independence. Let me see the zig-zag politics of yankees when it comes to other's independence
- Support iran islamic revoloution against shah regime. - Osama was a 'freedom fighter' not 'terrorist' against the communist empire. So 'islam' is good. Socialism is bad. Muslims are the best friends to have green zone to stop the red army to go to warmer waters. - This country had segragate people who want to 'piss', or 'take ride in the bus' not long ago come to us 'defending democracy, freedom and human rights. How about CIA prisons, abu-gharib, guantanamo etc. - Anyway, story goes on. Now, saddam was the hero and iran was the devil indeed :). They did not mind to support saddam against iran and gas the kurdish population north. What was the chemical weapons price tag sold by rumseld?
- The supporter of democracracy do not mind to support 'allies' like 'mubarek', devil dictatorship of sauidis and other monarchs than turn against saddam.
- They supported shias and kurdish population against baas. Now kurds are the 'chosen ally'. Than things go wrong again. Now usa try to implement saddam's team back to government. Because shias start turning their support for iran, which is the enemy of yankees.
- The army that has the half of world spending on arms, selling more arms against iran. Divide and rule. Imagine this money to be used in african problems, some say this solves most of the african health, agriculture, education problems. But who cares.
So the point is, independent is good for US. But please tell me, what about others? |

turk, You could not have said it better. You have pointed out what the US realy stands for. The problem of the climate change is the biggest and worst for Africa. In my opinion, the developed world should compenciate Africa for the climate change, whilst Africa has the least industries to cause polution. |

while usa is causing 50 % of polution and spending 50 % of military spending with only 5 % of population, they withdraw from kyoto that has agreement to combat with global warming.
That is so true alhassan. Here is the "truth" about "western hypocracy"
Western say : We can't let african to migrate. Because they can't handle the new population. However, climate change that western world cause is the reason for african migration. So they create the problem than the solutions such as accepting more immigrants or helping africa to deal with the climate changes can't be acceptable. It is like
west is a 'raper' and 'judge' at the same time who punish the africans who is 'raped victim'.
that is why i am so pissed someone is celebrating american independence which means nothing to third world population. |
