I wish Senegal all the best.

Hope they take care of their environment. I heard that most of the oil is going to be produced in Casamance; it would be terrible if this beautiful part of the country should look like the Niger delta or parts of the rain forest in the lovely country of Ecuador (Province Pastaza, Nueva Loja/Lago Agrio etc.) one day.

Where does the crude oil come from? Is it to be imported from Iran or are there offshore deposits?

kiwi,
There are offshore deposits in Senegal. A French company called Global Marine Europa used to drill in Senegal. Moreover one the problem within Senegal(between region dé Cap Vert and Cassamance)is due to the oil deposits in Cassamance cost.
As some one has posted that the production would be done in Cassamance, I hope the rebels put down their weapons.
