Madam Fathia Nkrumah (deceased) widow of Ghana's first president Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was accorded a decent state funeral in Accra Ghana.

Thanks for the link. It was moving for me. The roosts always come home. I am suprised that The Covention People's Party is still alive in Ghana.

Its fitting of Kufor to grant her a state burial something her husband could not have when he died. Nkrummah died in exile for a man who set the pace of Ghana's independence and development. Unfortunately, we do not value what we have.

"Voice from Conakry", a collection of Nkrummah's speeches in exiled, is a useful insight into the mind of this great son of Africa.

At independence in 1957, Nkrummah reminded Ghanainas that Ghana's independence was meaningless without the total liberation of the African people. He was ahead of his time not only for Ghana, but the whole continent.

Slowly but surely, the idea of an African Union is being buried as hitherto giants depart this world. Its sad but the truth. What we have today is those who give lip service with no action.

In Nkrummah's time, Ghana was home for all africans and no IDs asked. Partly because of his believe in an African Intercontinental Government, that he was deposed from office for ignoring his "country".

Today, no president in Africa has managed to achieve what Nkrummah achieved in his short term in Office. Education was made available for free at all levels in the country, roads built, Dams constructed, excess electricty was supplied to Togo and Bennin; silos built to store excess coffee produced in the west african region to stabilise prices and get good value for the african farmers etc. Those silos are still standing in Ghana but sadly, they are not used since his removal from office.

Well, i am reminded that a prophet is not honoured among his people.

Kondorong,

That is a refreshing account on the life and aspirations of Dr Kwame Nkrumah. It is clear why you maintained your reservations about the feasibility of African Unity. If what you just stated is better understood, the very first pillar of the Union (Nkrumah) was unjustly demolished at the wrong time. By that situation, the ship of African Union stays floating without a compass for direction. Full of literature and lofty ambition, but the will to set something in motion remains dormant. This is only a perspective. There may be some better explanation for the snail pace movement towards a unity that is yet to be.

My believe is that patronage is the biggest problem in Africa and unless we get rid of it, we will be slow boats to china probably never to arrive.

Karamba oh Karamba,
What a moving scene? Its as though Dr Nkrumah has risen from the death.Even if you are not Ghanian, looking at this pictures shows a state in mourning.Though Dr Nkrumah died in exile betrayed by people he trusted(Lt.col.J.E Ankara,Kotuka,Lt.Dankwa and other military officers who had all served as UN peace keeping officers in the Congo Kinsasa. They betrayed Patrice Lumumba and had him killed and would have done the same to Nkrumah had he not gone to Guinea to join another true son of Africa)

I salute you Karamba fopr this pictures showing Ghanians not forgetting our African true son'wife being accorded a state funeral.Dr Nkrumah during his time, had the first voice of Africa from Accra which without doubt showed his commitments to his country's first independence pledge ie total liberation of Africa and the Unity of the entire continent.

May Africa still produce the likes of him and many like him.
Amen!
Janyanfarax.

Janyanfara,

Thank you for your kind and most respecting words. The role of Nkrumah in the meeting the goals of African Unity is no small matter. He meant what he thought and taught. We have to understand and respect the role of our good past. Lumumba and Nkrumah have done so much. The least any patriot can do is give life to these past commitments. They died at moments in time when communication relied on very crude machinery and equipment. Now that we have more enhanced means of transmitting highly charged and relevant messages for mass consumption, the task can be easier. When perceived as meaning that a Union Government undermines personal grip on power and authority by insatiable dictators, that is where trouble begins.
