Thanks Karamba,
It is rather unfortunate, the problems we are facing in the Gambia and in many third world countries is how to facilitate these simple democratic concepts as a mean for higher grounds. Within our society, many citizens still lacks awereness about these fundamental truth and still unconscious of the fact, individuals come and go but the nation and its institutions are there to stay. However, undoubtedly we are at a transformational stage and the consequences of these lessons learnt from Jammeh's notorious era will hopefully serve as a turning point for many Gambians. |

Santanfara,
It is surely getting late and perhaps one needs reserving some of the energy in resuming the issue with Bread Man who is possibly taking a short night break. In passing, neddless to say that you have it right that the issue is about OUR country. An individual could not fill the bigger screen to such extent. The first sack of goods Jammeh looted Gambians is this very beefy part of the constitution-the term limit. We have to recover it.

I like your stance as a democrat. But my worry is someone who kills just to defend his five year term would be willing to allow referendum in his country( jammeh kunda).
Alleged to have killed!!!! There will be a day when that will be on the duck, so in the meantime lets stick to facts. |

| Have you people seen the draft constitution? There was nothing like a term limit in the draft that was presented to the people for referandum. It was probably deleted before it reach the people???? I am still in possession of that draft constitution and there is nothing like that when I read it before voting for it and am still looking into it to see if it was there. If it was there can somebody tell me which section it was please. |

Bread Man,
Assuming there was no TERM LIMIT what happened then? Out of the many PATRIOTIC citizens making up AFPRC, are we to take it that nobody saw the need for a limit to the presidential term. As we exchange these views over the net, you may be glad to know there is in reality no constitution in Gambia. Dr Yahya is a total eclipse over everything in Gambia and the constitution is nothing outside that. Anyone who talks about constitutionality and rights of citizens is seen as making a grave mistake. If there was such right, Fatou Jaw Manneh was not going to be arrested and charged, Deyda was not going to killed for factual reporting, etc. The idea of term limit is important but Jammeh does not want it. It reads from your question that you are happy that a term limit did not feature on the draft constitution. What happens if today Jammeh is toppled and someone comes to stay for life? Think national for everyone's good. The current state of affairs is great national sorrow. |

We are ALL CITIZENS OF THE GAMBIA and GAMBIAN FAMILY, BROTHERS & SISTERS but from our exchanges I tend to get lost or totally dis-orientated, confused and FRUSTRATED to undertand who amongst us are the TRUE PATRIOTS, THOSE FOR LIBERATION FROM ENSLAVEMENT & INDEPENDENCE, JUSTICE & EQUITY FOR ITS CITIZENS, RULE OF LAW & A SOUND DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM.
Our POLITICS is all about ALLEGIANCE TO THE RULING PARTY AND THE PRESIDENT ELECT and surrender to WHAT IS IMPOSED TO THE NATION BY DEFAULT AND CIRCUMSTANCES.
LETS SEE THE LIGHT THROUGH THE DARK TUNNEL and think GREAT IDEAS FOR THE COMMON PEOPLE OF THE MOTHERLAND. Its not about subdue to the dictates of an INDIVIDUAL MOTIVATION AND GOALS???
Lets think BIG for our NATIONAL RECONSTRUCTION, RECTIFICATIONS AND DEVELOPMENT
Are we PROUD OF OUR CONSTITUTION Is it RIGHT TO HARASS, DETAIN OR DENY SOMEONE TO EXERCISE POLITICAL WILL |

Great Thoughts Kobo,
That's the best way forward. No blind allegiance to incumbents but our firm allegiance to the nation and constitution of Gambia our homeland. Well put, Kobo. |

Quote from Brother Karamba "As we exchange these views over the net, you may be glad to know there is in reality no constitution in Gambia." "No blind allegiance to incumbents but our firm allegiance to the nation and constitution of Gambia our homeland." Which one is it Bro, do we or donīt we have a constitution??? And remember arresting and charging someone for an offence does not mean he/she is guilty. Remember the former director of civil aviation, she is free after been charged for economic offences. |
