my fellow Gambians, it is indeed very sad that a small country like The Gambia is now on the verge of division based on tribal affiliacion or tribal extremism if you like. There is a lot of noise about Tribalism, but I always wonder why we tend to deviate from the fact, THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS ALL TRIBES WERE LIVING PEACEFULLY ALONGSIDE EACH OTHER UNTILL 22 JULY 1994 WHEN YAYA JAMMEH TOOK OVER THE PRESIDENCY.WE ARE ALL GAMBIANS BY BIRTH WE HONESTLY KNOW IN THOSE DAYS HOW WE ARE COMPARED TO TODAY. YAHYA JAMMEH IS A VERY TRIBALIST PERSON AND WHAT HE FAILS TO UNDERSTAND IS TRIBALISM IS A VERY SENSITIVE ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE HANDLE WITH SERIOUS CARE IN AFRICAN CONTEXT.BUT HIM BEING IGORANT OF THE SENSITIVITY OF TRIBALISM, HE SUCCESSFULLY MARRIED IT WITH POLITICS. THIS IS THE PROBLEM WE ARE ALL FACING TODAY IN THE GAMBIA .WE ALL KNOW THAT YAYA IS HARBOURING A HEARTH FEELING FOR THE MANDINGOES FOR FEAR THAT IF THE PUSH COMES TO THE SORE AND EACH TRIBE STANDS ALONE HE WOULD NOT LAUGH.AS A RESULT HE INCULGATED THE MENTALITY IN TO THE REST OF MINORITY TRIBES THAT THE MANDIGOES WANT TO BE IN CONTROL FOR EVER AND THAT BEING THE CASE, THEY SHOULD RALLY BEHIND HIM AND UNITED AGAINST THE MANDIGOES TO PREVENT THAT FROM HAPPENING.SO THE SCENARIOR NOW IS A LOT GOT IT AGAINST THE MANDIGOES HENCEFORTH.THE MANDIGOES ARE THE MAJORITY TRIBE, BUT THEY ARE NOT THE MAJORITY AGAINST THE REST, SO
EVERY ONE IS PONTING FINGERS AT THE MANDIGOES AS THE CAUSE,(bulling) BUT IF WE ARE TO BE HONEST TO OURSELVES AND THE GAMBIA AS A NATION, THE MANDINGOES WHERE NOT AND ARE NOT PRACTINSING TRIBALISM, IT IS YAYA JAMMEH AND THE JOLA TRIBE(sorry not all) WHO ARE AT THE HELM OF TRIBALISM IN THE GAMBIA AND I GOT STRONG POINTS TO BACK MY STATEMENT.SIMPLE, JUST GO BY THE CIVIL SERVICE TODAY WE ALL KNOW THE LEVEL OF TRIBALISM OR NEPOTISM IF YOU LIKE THAT PREVAILS IN THERE.POLITICALLY THE FONIS HAS BECOME A NO GO AREA FOR THE OPPOSITIONS SINCE JAMMEH STARTS HIS DIRTY POLITICS.INFACT JAMMEH IS ALWAYS UNOPPOSED IN THE FONIS.WE HAVE SEEN BAKAU (a mandingoe zone)AND BADIBOU HOW RESISTANT THEY WERE TO JAWARA WHO IS THERE FELLOW MANDIGO DURING PPP DAYS.DO YOU THINK FONI TODAY WILL DO THAT AGAINST YAYA.IF BAKAU AND BADIBOU WAS TO GO BY TRIBALISM , THEY COULD HAVE UNITED TO SAY NO MANDINGO TO STAND AGAINST JAWARA AS THE JOLAS ARE DOING NOW.HOW MANY MANDIGOES ARE STRONGLY ADVOCATING FOR APRC TODAY? YOU COMPARED THAT TO THE NUMBER OF JOLAS IN THE OPPOSTION. INFACT THE HANDFUL OF JOLAS IN THE OPPOSTION ARE CONSIDERED AS OUTCASTS AMONG THEIR TRIBE FOR BEIN AGAISNST YAYA JAMMEH .THIS IS QUITE OBVIOUS BEFORE ALL OUR EYES, BUT NOBOBY MOURNS ABOUT IT TO MY SUPRISE,BUT RATHER KEEP FUSSING ABOUT MANDINGOES AND LEVELLING THEM AS TRIBALISTS.OR IS IT OK FOR THE OTHERS TO PRACTICE TRIBALISM BUT NOT THE MANDINGOES.GUYS LETS OPEN OUR EYES AND NOTICE THAT THE ONLY PROBLEM WE ARE ALL FACING IS JAMMEH, HE HAS MESSED THINGS UP VERY
BADLY AND FOR GODS SAKE HE JUST GOT TO GO.
GOD BLESS OUR DEAR MOTHERLAND.

You are very right Demish. but the sad fact is, it's the people we trust on this bantaba and other online gambian forums, people we look forward to their postings, people we look forward to educating us, are the same people who are quoting Dr Jammeh to justify their point against the mandigoes. If you go back to the old achive you will know what i mean when a prominent member of this forum used the same statistics as DrJammeh. They claim not to support Jammeh but certainly go by his words. This is why NADD is in such a mess. You cannot be in a battle field with an aggressive enemy and you want to turn round to shoot one of your greatest warriors because you don't like him and you think you are going to win that battle? I don't think so. I think we should stop kidding ourselves and start looking what is on the ground. We are merely talking with our keyboards. The most important thing is what the people in the gambia, who are going to vote in the election, think. I respect every member of NADD excutive but I think they all want to be the flag bearer of NADD. If their collective aim is to unseat Jammeh, not be the leader of the coalition I think they should look for someboby who was close to winning against Jammeh, i.e. the peoples' choice than someone who was not even a candidate for that matter. I think we should be honest with ourselves and stop pretending that NADD is ever going to win without the support of Darboe and the UDP/NRP. If Dr Jammeh hasn't infested our brains with his tribalistic tactics this would'nt have happened in NADD. I bet he is laughing his head out saying afterall am not ignorant as they claim since am able to manipulate them with my cheap weapon.
We need to think seriouly if we are go any forward in obtaining our objective TO UNSEAT JAMMEH.
LONG LIVE THE GAMBIA
SALAM.

Look brothers,
I agree wit you but let us be fair to ourselves here.We all know that now as we stand, the only credible candidate to unseat Jammeh (I mean 4 the comming 2006) as of now amongst the contenders,is no doubt Ousainou Darboe,My reasons are simple,His party is the biggest in the NADD camp.Even in Senegal, when they wanted Abdou Joof out and they knew they couldn't do it individually, they joined collectively and chosed the leader of the largest party to lead the coalition.
But ours in the Gambia is different I don't think Ousainou should pull out of NADD at this time. After all at the end of the day, they will all fail individually. So why not give dialog a chance?
I am an opposition to Jammeh's rule and every Gambian who knows me knew this includding Jammeh himself. But I am sad with Ousainou's move.I want Jammeh out now (2006) and not latter 2011.Oh my God think of this.Within that time, you all know the type of parliment we have, they change the presidential term limit to even eight years 2014 when most of you will be more frustrated about the poverty hardship and unbearable situation in side the gambia then.We are all seing how comodities are going skyrocket?
Lets pray.
Mankajang Janyanfara.

Janyanfara I agree completely with you. I worry that if the opposition doesnt gain power in 2006 there may be increased civil unrest due to desperation...... The price of rice cannot keep rising and wages kept low without something exploding eventually. Gambia people are very kind patient people......... but at some point enough is enough. Lets hope a political change will bring REAL change for ordinary people.
