I feel so so bad.I know how hard it is to live with this illness and especially in Gambia where she won't have enough medical attention. My husband had severe arthritis as a child, it lasted for more than 6 years. He could not attend school during that time, could not even walk. His parents ran around the whole time looking for a marabout to cure him. This was not cheap either. Then eventually one man was able to cure him, after 6 years. Now, a few decades later, the same thing occured again, while he was staying in Gambia. It's now been more than 2 years, but we are hopeful. During this time in Gambia, I was there for some of the time aswell. The Marabout who cured him the first time deceased so all taht is left is to run from one Marabout to the next.We went to this German clinic, they diagnosed tropical rheumatism, but the medication did not work. My husband sat at home(with all the women ) all day every day. When I came to visit, we stayed at our compound and I was constantly boiling roots and other medicines, helping him to take a "sauna" with his medicines........As soon as the sun set, the pain got unbearable.Even footsteps outside were pounding in his wrists and ankles. He had lost so much weight, I hardly recognised him.Since he's here, the pain and swelling have gone down, and because of that he is putting on weight again. The cure seems to have come to a hault, but it is still much better than without anti-inflamatary(?)I cried many times, and prayed that one day his patience will be rewarded. And spending all your moeny on painkillers is not a solution. I can't imagine how your friend will cope, she won't have much of a quality of life. |

Twinkly I too know the effects. I had a friend who was an extremely successful businesswoman, who contracted RA in her mid 30s, lost her business and is now depressed and housebound.
It's not pleasant at all. |

Hi Twinkly has your husband been to his GP to ask him to refer him to the acupuncturist, yet. This may offer him the relief he's seeking, after all its worth a try!
Peace

Sister Omega, I know quite a lot and a lot bit about democracy....Thats my firld and I play it well if not forward then midfielder in it.I know our dear sister needs to have all the neccesary support and we try our best to give that.As well I go to Africa twice every year and Maybe give you a bit lecture about the situations there.I trave around Africa like space ship travels around the moon.I am not going further. You may have the previlage to read my book one day. Peace. Hi Gambiabev, No am not patronicing you and I know you really have quite a lot oof interest 4 the Gambia and as you have travelled inland, you have seen what most travellers didn't see. Well if its 4 charity I belief the authorities in Banjul will not give you too much trouble though its really expensive to ship it from here. Actually Iam really happy because the people of kolior will be Happy.I have a lot and a lot of relatives there.I hope I could but I cant give addresses on the web or mine. Its so unfortunate. But if I know when it will be in Banjul,I can easily make a lot of calls 4 you for easy passage through ports. Peace Mankajang Janyanfara |

Janyanfara I don't really understand what you are trying to say. I was referring to Twinkly's husband who lives in the UK who is suffering from RA.

a barrister has been supplied by our friends solicitor to prepare grounds for the appeal, and an answer to whether or not it will go ahead will be made within a couple of days.....the cynic in me feels that allowing a barrister and the subsequent cost involved will give a fairer hearing |

An expensive route! But at least then you will feel everything possible has been tried. Please keep us updated on the progress of the case. |

the barrister is employed by the state or is that what you are implying by expense, that more tax payers money is involved? I certainly hope that I am wrong and that you are not implying that. I state "subsequent cost" to imply that the judge was aware and would not have granted leave were it not warrented! |

No I didnt imply anything. I didnt realise that the barrister was employed by the state, I thought her supporters would pay for it. But if that is what it takes for her to have a fair trial and justice to be done I have no objection. |

the appeal is going ahead and her solicitor is attempting to have her bailed from Yarl's Wood until the High Court hearing which will be months from now. |

She is no danger to anyone......so should be allowed bail...when you think of some of the people they give bail to!!! But are they worried she will disappear? Presumably if she is seeing her doctor regulary they can keep tabs on her through that. Hope she gets the bail..let us know. |

somebody will supply surety against absconding, either my wife and I, or her cousin in London, and the fear of her absconding is low, because she is aware that by having a QC put together her appeal the chances of success are higher, and were there a real fear of absconding she would either have been deported or stay in Yarl's Wood, and believe me, your taxes are paying much more for her being in detention. Any help health wise that she will receive is negated against the hundreds of pounds a week keeping her locked up! |
