That kind of disrcimination is illegal in uk and people would be prosecuted for it. Why isnt it the same in the rest of europe?

Though it may be illegal, landlords still have the right to refuse somebody a tenancy agreement.
A landlord might have had a bad experience with someone and will discriminate the whole people for this,"they are all the same anyway".I have experienced this even in England.Obviously not as openly but I can read people very well. There is a huge devide between the Asians and Blacks here, Asians think they are better than the Blacks. So you would very rarely see an asian businessman employing an African.
But you are right, the UK is trying to tackle the problem and is way ahead of many european countries. That's why I chose to live here

In Switzerland, my friend had to go househuntig by herself, as soon as they saw her black husband, they refused to give her the place. And they were both working and were financially stable(but obviously he is black so he is a drugdealer.....).And even her african surname got in the way of many things.

I can't imagine how Africans feel everyday, I ran from this problem and moved to a country where things are a little bit better(for my husband and children),I could not live with this injustice day after day,my heart bleeds when I think of the times in german-speaking Europe.Eventhough it was not me who was affected. If I WAS black, I don't think I would be strong enough to take all this nonsense.
As a white it is very easy to forget and ignore the daily struggles of Africans, we are not affected by all this superiority struggle eventhough we may have a partner who has these problems, our skin is still white.
I feel so sorry

Bamba, do you take issue with "misery likes company", this means that if someone is unhappy at that present time they do no deal with with but avoid the issue. Some people go on holiday, they still have to come to terms with what made them unhappy but have gone away to put some space between them and the situation that made them unhappy. Maybe the break of a relationship.
I agree with some of the members that your comments are strong. On Bantaba do we not come from different societies and have a different view of the same thing. What is acceptable t yuo is not acceptable in another societies.
Why so negative.
Also the opening comments on this topic was never about the issues wer are talking about. the issue then was a Gambia stealing from another Gambian. Advice never trust family members go back to the begining and read it.

gambiaeve, it is illegal in the UK, but I culd practice it if I wanted. As you know you can refuse people a job or house in subtle ways. you can get away with it if you want to.
think police cadets/recruitment. harrassment on racial grounds

You can do it subtly, I agree....but you run the risk of being taken to court. The more brave people stand up and do this, the less it will happen. I am not saying UK is perfect, FAR from it...but it sounds better than Sweden, Germany etc.....

In Germany, the Conservatives blocked the passing of anti-discrimination laws two years ago. Their arguments were that the judiciary would collapse if everybody who was denied a job, a house or whatever, could go to courts. And that our constitution already guarantees fair treatment for everybody...

You are not trying to be racist? - Hmmmmmm. I apologised last time when I thought i may have misunderstood your posting on "light skinned women", - now Im thinking "was I right to apologise"?? How can you so stupidly generalise - sorry it may amaze you but I, as a white female am not in the habit of throwing myself into bushes and hurting myself for no reason, or doing similar silly random acts. (although I have been known to hide money in my washing machine - totally forget its there - turn on the washing machine - and when its on its last cycle glance into the machine and notice shrivelled notes being spun around the machine). What if i came out with a statement such as "dark skin equals ugly", and "black women are capable of doing stupid things, not like white women because they are better then that". You would be a bit disgruntled wouldnt you? I think most people would be. But thats exactly what YOU have said and suggested in this post and another posting about females of a certain colour. Of course I dont know you as a person, and unfortunatly I again may be misinterpreting what you are saying - but your last statement as we say in the Uk really took "the biscuit".

first of all kisley, don't call me stupid. my opinions are just that, mine! so since neither of us is in elementary school, i think you should refrain from hauling insults at me.

there is nowhere on this Bantaba that i wrote that "light skin is ugly" NO WHERE. so find something else to do rather than twist my words. i said that light skin does not equal beauty cause since we live in a world controlled by whites , people all over tend to believe that the light the better or the closer to white the better. obviously i'm not one of those people and so what. so its racist for me to not think that white or anything close to it is beautiful. its called preferences: likes and dislikes - most humans have that. another thing, yeah, i said it, i don't think a black woman or man would randomly throw themselves into a bush, beat themselves until they're black and blue, and then call and lie to the police. you can ask anybody you know whether random nonsense like that they think a black or white person did that. even some white people will admit that its a white person. you may not be in the habit of throwing yourself in bushes in bushes, but obviously someone of ur kind did. and they're done enough random nonsense like that to make me believe that random nonsense like that would most likely come from whites.

I couldn't care less if she was purple or green, my thing is as a Gambian, i deserve a first lady that has dignity, bueaty and class. she has none, please, light skin does not equal bueaty, especially in zainab's case. this makes yaya look even worse to me, a prostitute!!! que!!".

I did not say that you had said "light skin equals ugly", it was what you were implying that i found offensive. And if you remeber I APOLOGISED if I may have misunderstood you. But this thing about White women and random acts is so stupid, that i am not even going to bother to go there anymore. NOW THATS MY OPINION.

I hope as intelligent people the majority on this site can agree that the way people act has NOTHING to do with the colour of their skin.

There are good and bad in both sexes and in all races.

I would really like to end this discussion once and for all. It keeps rearing its head...and I am sorry Kassma and Bamba but it has the smell of racism.

I HOPE most intelligent people treat people as they find them regardless of class, gender, colour, religion etc...

If EVERYONE did that can you imagine how much better the world would be?

If it happened a while back why now to put it on bantaba, if I got ripped off, I would warn others ASAP.
