thank pa conlinieus for the good research. but i will not dwell too much on saddam.he is sad. he murdered so many people when in power ,so let the sword apply to him. leave by the sword and you.......
saddAM have no value for human life.for ALHASAAN saddam did not and never champion Islam. he was an avid secularist and pure nationalist.he took the American's and westerners in general as his buddies so why the crocodile tears.let him die.i am not happy that he is to be hang but he did authorise some of the killings ,so let the sword be ready.
dictators believe they will never be caught well one by one they are been tried and jailed. charles taylor is the latest.i hope this trend continue.saddam may Allah forgive you but the law is the law and no one should be above it.

Bro,
I shall let the truth be the judge.

Charles taylor will never face a death penalty. In Europe there is none. The best place for any dictator to be tried is Europe. The worst you can get is life in Prison and perhaps a better environment. Charles should be tried in Liberia where he committed his crimes.

Just MUST BE SEEN TO BE DONE and there is no better place than being tried among the people one has treated so badly. It becomes a daily reminder to everyone. BRING CHARLES BACK TO LIBERIA TO BE TRIED BY HIS PEOPLE NOT 5 STAR HOTELS OF THE HAGUE.

well you are right. personally i am not comfortable with the dealth penalty anywhere. but some crimes are so unique they can be understood. last week we talked about Danso for example.

but the best punishment for Taylor is to spend the rest of his life waking up in 2m x 2m x 2m.but the real reason he is in europe is partly our fault, we are complacent in our approach.

You are right. Personnally i dont believe in a death penalty but some crimes are so terrible that i am sometimes inclined to believe that some people deserve it. Trying such people in Europe sends a bad signal. For many Africans, Europe is "heaven" and merely being there no matter what is seen as a gain not a loss.

If he walks the cells in Monrovia or some where in Nimba County, and works on the rubber plantation, right before his own people, thats better. Africans cant handle a fall from a high office and stay among their people. They just want to leave. Making him stay is a bigger psychological punishment.

YOU ARE RIGHT KONDO.Charles should be tried in monrovia.he should be burnt at stake in the present of liberian's. this will stop the murderers in african politics. saddam was so evil he even killed his own son inlaw ,how bad can you get.

The fear is that if he is tried in Monrovia ( don't forget that he is being arraigned by the SPECIAL COURT of Sierra Leone, for war crimes allegedly perpetrated in that country) and it is feared that his supporters in Liberia ( if indeed he still has any, mighty be a threat to the security of that country.

There is also the possibility that he could expire before the judgment, like his buddy Foday Sankoh who perished due to ill health……and possibly bad treatment.
I wonder how much Taylor is worth now, strictly speaking, in dollars, diamonds, timber and gold….

...and continue the killing. Santanfara, if you claim to be better than a criminal and thus have the right to judge him, you shouldn't use his methods.

I agree with kondorong and njucks. Once they are sentenced, bring Taylor and Saddam back to their countries and there let them work hard in front of their people and wake up in a small, stinky cell for many years. A trial in Europe surely is not the best, but it means to be on more or less neutral territory. It could as well be Asia or another African country.
