occasionally in the Bantaba, we hear about Africa's wealth being taken by europeans, colonial exploitation, slavery reparation bla bla.
whilst these things happened, very rarely do we see people put a figure on what post-colonial Africans have done to themselves. According to Nigeria's own commission , the country alone (1 out of 53) lost $380Bn.

if you think Nigeria is a rich country think about Guinea, The Congo, Ivory Coast, Zambia,Sudan.......
i'm sure the Swiss are eternally grateful.

i agree if pressure could be put on africans to open their banks not just swiss, but think monaca, jersey, cayman and other places it would write off the debt of many small african nations and make a dent in some of the bigger countries. But i have always asked, who gave them the money and never asked questions |

All countries have swindlers. It is indeed sad to see African money sleep in Swiss banks. It would be way better for it to circulate in Africa. At least it will generate jobs.
At this time, all participants (African swindlers, profiteering multinationals, Swiss banks, protectionist countries) in this cycle stand to gain from the current arrangement, except for the poor people of Africa. They will see the injustice only when they have enough education to comprehend what is going on. For the people to demand transparency and accountability will take a few years. It is inevitable though, since education only spreads and knowledge is very accessible.

I thought it was also a crime to be receipt of stolen goods, I wonder if someone could enlighten me, if that's also the case in Switzerland? If that is true then why are Swiss banks holding on to stolen money in their banks, and not returning them to Africa treasurers where they belong? Aren't Swiss Bankers just money laundering? If the west really want to help alleviate some of Africa's problems the major one being poverty, then surely they would impose sanctions on the Swiss Authorities for encouraging and aiding and abetting illegal activities, that is of cause if theft is illegal in Switerzland? I stand to be corrected.

Sister Omega, I believe the service provided by Swiss bankers is quite legal (at least according to Swiss law) in this situation. I suppose it is not up to the banks to decide whether any money being deposited with them was previously obtained by legal means by the depositor. It is their business ethics that are in question.
I must also say that if Swiss banks do not take the money, someone else will.
Transparency of such transactions is a great next step to take to wake up people.
