TRADE, AID NEEDED TO DEVELOP AFRICA -- BARROSO
Africa requires both trade and aid to combat poverty and develop, European Commission President José Manuel Barroso told a news briefing on 16 October 2006 after meeting Commonwealth Secretary-General Don McKinnon at Marlborough House, London.
"For Africa to develop, we need both trade and aid. We need aid for some structural reforms and to support infrastructural development in Africa," he said.

we,we,we!!
No NO No Mr Barroso, for Africa to develop your Office and the EU should stop the Agricultural subsidies under the CAP that are promoting overproduction and deflating commodity prices.
you should also open up your markets and stop the EU trade barriers. even better you should also stop the EU trick of overfishing in peoples'waters killing local livelyhoods. you wouldnt let them export their fish but corner them into fishing deals that wipe out entire stocks edible or not!

The Mandingos say: NINGKO NGANDA FOROYYA KANTA, TAA SI KUTUBUNG DALA. (If we challenge each other to stay independent of each other, make sure you are seated by the grain store because a hungry person will swallow his pride no matter what.)
You cannot bite the finger that feeds you.
Each nation has one vote at UN but not all votes matter. HE, WHO PAYS THE PIPER, CALLS THE TUNES. Africa contributes so little to the UN budget. It’s in fact the largest benefactor. Sometimes I wonder if the UN was not set up for Africa. The UN is more relevant in some African countries than their governments providing drugs, ambulances, education, and food and even paying salaries.
Unless Africa contributes a sizeable share of the Budget, they should just be prepared to be zombies in international diplomatic circles.
Those who pay the bills have every right to tell others who receive what to do. If we don’t like that, then, we should step up to the plate.

but will they step up to the plate i think not, each african nation can and should take responsibility for their own future, if they do not challenge the UN, EU and other bodies they cannot complain. I would just like to see some of the nations be there in some shape form or other. I think a lot of african countries are just invisible to the outside world, people still think of african as one countries not 53 |

As those who read my regular postings know, I support Action Aid. In their latest magazine there is the following:
TARGET POVERTY
1. Trade: leaders of rich countries must ensure that poor countries are able to choose the best policies to end poverty. 2. Corporate abuse: leaders of rich countries must ensure that companies don't abuse poor people's rights by exploiting corporate power. 3. Aid: leaders of rich countries must deliver more and better aid. 4. HIV and AIDS : leaders of rich countries must honour their commitment to access to AIDS treatment by all by 2010. 5. WOmens rights: Leaders of rich countries must ensure they protect and romote the rightsof women globally.
