I'd say impossible! Hon. Carl Bildt in trouble? In trouble with who? No, he loves George B Senior and I'm sure George B junior too. Wants a two-state solution.....but Sabbath has kept me away from news, so lets see if the world is going round or standing still

Cornelius, I guess you can read some Danish. Read this article and see for your self. http://www.dr.dk/Nyheder/Udland/2006/10/21/154359.htm
Here is some translation:
Bildt has shares in the company Vostok Nafta, which again has shares in the Russian gas-giant Gazprom. Gazprom will be going to start building a gas-pipeline soon close to the Swedish island Gothland, and an application is on the way to the Swedish government. And it is precisely Carl Bildt and his Ministry that is to take position to the application. Now the constitution-committee has to decide whether he is disqualified. If Carl Bildt sells his shares, he will earn about four millions of crowns.
It is the Swedish parliament member “Riksdagsmedlem” Ulf Holm from Miljöpartiet, who wants the constitution-committee to decide whether Bildt is disqualified in the case.
“I think that the constitution-committee must examine this case. I think that there are or can arise a situation, where Carl Bildt is disqualified, since he owns shares and thus is interested economically as a private person in a case, that is to be treated by him in the capacity of being a Minister of Foreign Affairs” Ulf Holm says. The Swedish newspaper Affärsvärlden writes that the Minister of Foreign Affairs will sit on two chairs, when the decision about a building licence to Gazprom is to meet. The secretary general of Amnesty International in Sweden, Carl Söderberg also thinks Bild's financial interests can influence the Minister of Foreign Affairs' credibility with regards to contacts with Russia and Russian leaders. |

Thanks a lot Momodou. Otherwise my Danish and Norwegian is thru a glass dimly. First time in Copenhagen , I thought that they were speaking Icelandic….This newz has not yet hit the Swedish media....but from long ago we know that Bildt had shares in Lundin Oil, which is/was heavily invested in oil exploration etc in the SUDAN, and you know all about the trouble in Darfur is about what is under the Earth. As far as I know, the bloke Carl Bildt is an honest broker.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=Carl+Bildt+and+Lundin+Oil&spell=1
We will be taking a closer look at this and other matters and we have to understand that every politician has or has had a life prior to joining any government. I listened to Carl Bildt's "Wind of change " speech at Kungsträdgården and he did have that going for him at the time when his arch enemy the Soviet Union was then slowly unravelling into the dissolution that we have today...., remember those submarine intrusions and the big buzz about the Baltic States. NOW as foreign minister he will be grappling with another reality as the Germans and Russians get together in a new EU...... etc etc...phew The EU might well expand all the way to the Middle East! Pretty Scary
I have never taken my eyes off Carl Bildt. His blog has been bookmarked for some time now. Early this week, my dear friend Kofi Sapathy gave me the print copy of The Economist for the week October 14th – 20th with the command : IQRA. Read about Sweden he said. And I did. Kofi the reader wants others to read and every once on a while he slips me a fresh copy of The Economist. Here it is and note how highly the usually objective Economist lauds Carl Bildt in no uncertain terms mentioning "his powerful intellect and sharp pen” – not to mention his sometimes acerbic wit. Read: http://www.economist.com/world/europe/displaystory.cfm?story_id=8035839
If I’m lucky, perhaps Kofi will give me the latest Economist for Eid…….
Right at the bottowm don't miss "An invitation to talk business"

Thanks for the translation I find that I can read and understand 99% of that article in Danish and 85% of Italian when it is about Islam!

It´s correct that minister Carl Bildt is ”in trouble” due to his shareholding in Russian energy company Vostok Nafta, it has also been reported by most Swedish newspapers before this weekend, though it didn´t make any big headlines. However, it´s important to note that it´s not a question of suspected illegalities but his shareholding could disqualify him when negotiating with the company as a represent for Sweden and EU.
Former ministers in earlier goverments used to sell their shares right after appointment. If Carl Bildt is going to do the same, remains to be seen as he refuses to speak about it before constitution-committee has given it´s opinion.
Some years ago he was critisized for his interest in Lundin Oil company working in Darfur, Sudan. Can a former Swedish prime minister and peace keeper in Bosnia hold shares i companies working in countries which not always respect human rights? A bit double standard? Mr Bildt has always regarded himself as an internationalist, his interest in companies in these countries is not a surprise.
