My Stone Edition Chumash notes : “Let us make man” This preamble indicates that man was created with great deliberation and wisdom. God did not say, “ Let the earth bring forth”, as He did with other creatures; instead , Man was brought into being with the deepest involvement of Divine Providence and wisdom ( Abarbanel)
Targum Yonasan paraphrases: “ And God said to the ministering angels who had been created on the second day of Creation of the world, “Let us make Man.”
When Moses wrote the Torah and came to this verse ( Let us make) , which is in the plural and implies that there is more than one Creator, he said, “ Sovereign of the Universe! Why do You furnish a pretext for heretics to maintain that there is a plurality of divinities?”
“Write !”, God replied. “Whoever wishes to err will err….Instead let them learn from their Creator Who created all, yet when he came to create Man He took counsel with the ministering angels” ( Midrash). Thus God taught that one should always consult others before embarking upon major new initiatives, and He was not deterred by the possibility that some might choose to find a sacrilegious implication in the verse. The implication of God’s response , “Whoever wishes to err will err,” is one that one who sincerely seeks the truth will see it; one who looks for an excuse to blaspheme will find it.
IN OUR IMAGE, i.e., in our mold ( Rashi) , meaning that God had prepared the mold with which he would now shape Man.
AFTER OUR LIKENESS: with the power of understanding and intellect. ( Rashi)
SO GOD CREATED: Just as Man is unique, so the manner of his creation was unique and exalted. Throughout the chapter, God brought all things into being with an utterance, but he created Man with His own hands as it were. ( Rashi)
In His IMAGE, in the IMAGE OF GOD : Among all living creatures, Man alone is endowed – like his creator – with morality, reason, and free will. He can know and love God, can hold spiritual communion with Him; and man alone can guide his actions through reason. It is in this sense that the Torah describes Man as having been created in God’s image and likeness.
MALE AND FEMALE: Although Eve was created later ( 2:21) , she and Adam were created on the same day ( Rashi) Although all living creatures were created male and female , this fact is specified only in the case of human beings, to stress that both sexes were created by God in His likeness.
And the attitudes we derive from these perspectives of the truth, should also be our attitude to whoever, whatever or wherever any of humankind is being threatened and killed, whether it s Casamance, or Darfur or Jerusalem, Afghanistan, Iraq, Gaza and the West Bank or Lebanon: GOD made man in His Image!

The watchword is NEVER AGAIN and that means to be on the alert at all times. Not to try to put out the fire when it is fully blazing , but at the first sign of smoke, otherwise it could grow into a very big fire. Israel only needs to lose ONE war, and then……

Of what significance is forgiveness here? Does it make sense to you? What do you want to forgive, the suffering, humiliation, degradation, wanton injustice and the right of the Nazis to liquidate six million Jews? You want the Jewish people to forgive that the Nazis wipe out their best citizens and take over their property which they then distribute among themselves?
With Iran threatening to “ wipe out” the remnant of Israel Ahmadinejad is in effect saying that although he does not believe in the extent of the Holocaust , he would like to perpetrate the final solution himself in the first and final place of true Jewish habitation, home and exile and back home when there is no other place to run to, that’s where & who he wants to wipe out. But I’m 100% sure that he himself will be wiped out if he does not change his mind about that. With change of mind can come repentance.
It is not the aim of Imam Mahdi alaihi salaam, to wipe out Israel. I know that.

there’s an excerpt an apocalyptic tract called the “Nistarot of Rabbi Shimon bar Yohai which says,

Really too bad. But I think it is not very helpful to demonize the Germans, because doing this you blind yourself for the structures behind these incredible crimes - structures that can be revived at any time, at any place in the world. Read Morton Rhue's 'The Wave' and you'll know what I mean.
Daniel J. Goldhagen, for example, wants to make us believe that the Holocaust was unique, essentially German and could never happen again (Daniel J. Goldhagen, "Hitler's Willing Executioners", 1995).
This is an absolutely dangerous nonsense, because unfortunately genocide is not at all unique, and this is why we should stay alert at any time. Just one example: Look at the USA and what they did to the First Americans. The only difference is that this Holocaust took more time, and that is wasn't done in an industrial way like in Germany. But planning, as an essential condition of murder, was also given. After, and up the 1960ies the Americans even produced glorifying movies about this shameful historical period. Could you imagine a German movie like the John Wayne-films about the Holocaust?
However - I fear I am wasting my time. I have the impression that you are not really interested in discussing the matter on a reasonable basis.
BTW did you know that the Britains, not the Germans invented the concentration camps (in South Africa)? |

the germans i have met are intelligent and really open,nice people. generalising is worng. trust me i thing Americans are the most hated people on Earth.
people have to be reasonable and objective in their debates. debating only to point fingers is silly.
genocide is going on as we speak in Darfur. happened in Cambodia, Rwanda etc. the thing is, its not a question of numbers but the design of the process. is that state involved, society, few individuals , the army etc
often we forget that not every Jewish person was killed in the concentration camps. a large number were people killed by mobile hit squads. the holocaust brought genocide closer to home for most europeans but it was not new to the imperial powers of the time or before.
the risk is always there everywhere. remember Adolf Hitler and natioanl socialism were voted for in a free and fair election. a product of democracy.
i would suggest you watch the movie Det Untergang, which shows the last few days of Hitler in his bunker. |

Njucks, this is a good recommendation.
You may be right about Americans as the most hated people in the world, but I think you and I would never hate anyone just for being American. It is mostly the American politics what people hate, and regarding all the damage this politics has done and is still doing worldwide, this is quite understandable.
But really, some Americans seem to be incredibly dim-witted or completely brainwashed. Yesterday I saw a TV documentary about Iraq; US soldiers were discussing with Iraqi policemen (meanwhile even parts of the Iraq police support the attacks on US soldiers). One Iraqi said that compared to the current situation life under Saddam Hussein was much easier and much safer. E.g., in a country which produces oil, today most people even don't have fuel to cook. A young US soldier, perfectly fed and cared for by the US army catering, almost shouted at the man: Freedom (!!!!) should mean more to him than cooking gas! When I see such a stupid behaviour I am not surprised about anything... |

no exact figures are available but scientists studying the holocoast estimate it must be between 5,3 and 6 million people.
