UNDER-17 GROWING UP TO BECOME UNDER-20

The importance of sports to good health in both physical and mental terms cannot be overemphasised.
Each country has the responsibility to provide the environment to promote sports and arts. The degree of leisure that a society will enjoy depends on the degree of development of arts and sports. This is why government and people should always encourage the development of arts and sports.

The problem of the development of sports in The Gambia is that too much money is spent on monetary fanfare and too little on players, coaches, infrastructure, sporting gears and popular support.
Instead of establishing a fund to support the game the national team depends largely on charity to be sponsored.

In short, fund raising could have been organised to raise funds for the team. Musicians could have also given support to the team. The funds raised could have been saved in an interest bearing account. These type of schemes need to be pioneered to assist the Under-20 team.

Needless to say, footballers who have found their way abroad should also come together to form a foundation to finance teams at home. This may promote more investments into the game.
Arrangements can also be made with advertising agents for sharing benefits with the TV during the coverage of a football match.
In short, some strategic thinking needs to be done to help the Under-20 team to develop a sense of professionalism without owing any obligation to any personality. This calls for an independent source of financing which rewards merit.
This is what Gambian football is crying for.
