Well, the last day of the first half term in my new job. I have enjoyed it, but I am exhausted. This week has been very tough as everyone is very tired at school.
I have decided NOT to go to Leicester . I am too tired and have too much to do here. I have neglected jobs around the house. Also I have 3 annual reviews to write over half term. They take about a day each. Plus all my planning for the next half term. Next half term is 8 weeks and we have all the excitement / disruption of christmas to deal with.
So I am going to have a quiet half term. Regroup ready for the next one! |

Cheers......Gambie-Bev & rest from exhaustion in perfect peace after you have done all the neglected housework, completed the 3 annual reviews in the three days before half-term, wet your lips with the taste of a few cold beers, taken off your shoes, it’s then and only then that you deserve this mid-term holiday out of Leicester. But on your way to paradise your complete holiday relaxation will only be found in Tendaba, Pirang and Kolior, among other places, and among the people who live there, a little like the spiritual regeneration persons have reported to experience during the moments of ourlives, the Sabbaths, specially reserved and devoted to the presence of holiness in our lives.
And Gambiabev you are to get ready for the next turn, i.e.the next term
After that it-s X-mas and you deserve the family festivity of the Christian spirit( even though you would look serene in that black hijab) like a holy mother or nun and the Christmas satiety is filled with more beer, more joy and happiness, more turning of the other cheek to cheek
feeling the way you do on the banks of the Gambia river, you could burst out in song: this song as sung by Ella Fitzgerald or Loius Armstrong or Gambiabev, one of those , who the right hand possesseth

Went out for a coffee with my sister this morning.
Am cleaning the house tomorrow (why is it always tomorrow?). Two very old friends (meaning I have known them for a long time, not they are very old!). Are coming for lunch on Sunday. They'll be looking at the photos of my recent visit to The Gambia and I'm hoping to persuade at least one of them to take a holiday there.
On Monday I'm going Christmas shopping in Taunton in Somerset (I love the town despite the fact that the shops are all spaced out). I am hoping to take some photos of a mobile juice bar that's usually in the town centre. The juice sellers I spoke to when I was in The Gambia were agog when I tried to tell them about all the equipment the stall has. Then when I told them that the stall sells (wheat) grass juice their look turned to incredulity.
All in all a nice long four day weekend. |

Leokat, CHRISTMAS SHOPPING?? My, you think ahead!
Like in Bev's case, the autumn break (as we call it 'herfstvakantie') just started and I have a very long week(end) ahead indeed, which will be used for cleaning out closets, doing administration (=pay bills finally) and hopefully some long walks in the woods which are turning yellow and red very nicely. Not to forget: catching up on sleep. |

I was online last night looking at flights to Gambia for new year. I dont think I can go a whole winter without visiting my second home. I am thinking of getting a flight only and then staying at a guesthouse in Kotu area or booking Palm beach separately. The flight is £441, expensive!!! First choice from Manchester. Gambia experience has stopped using Palm Beach hotel. Does anyone know why? Does anyone know of a nice guesthouse in the same area? Anyone know of cheaper flights? |

Bev, take a look at www.gambia.startpagina.nl Travelpoort offers seat-only prices which are considerably lower than the price you mention (unless you want to leave on 22 December, that's the most expensive ticket of the year). You will also see a lot guesthouses advertised, i don't know any from experience in Kotu. When in Bakau, i stay in the Romana Hotel for 10 euros a night for the room (no breakfast, but many places about where you can have a nice one). |

Gambia bev, try flythomascook.com and cheapflights.co.uk both have return flights to The Gambia for under 250 pounds sterling, depending on when and where you fly from, mostly Gatwick I think, but worth checking out. Six Houses at Kotu is very nice as well. |

I am very happy because I have booked a flight to Gambia for 30th December, so I will be there for new year!!!!
I will only have 1 week, so I am not going to Tendaba this time. But I will visit Pirang and Brufut. I am hoping to stay one night at Footsteps ecolodge and the rest of the time at a guest house in Kotu.
When I go back at the end of May I plan to visit Wassu, Tendaba, Kwinella and Kolior. But after my first term in my new job I just want a relaxing week this time. |
