At the end of the month, for 3 weeks. I got an urgent call from the headquarter of Anopheles gambiae; they told me they are going to die without my blood. I never visisted Gambia in the rain season, but even in winter the mosquitoes love me... Besides this, I am looking forward to this trip! I think the rain season in Gambia is like the monsoon in India, where I enjoyed the heavy, warm rain very much.

Oh, you lucky girl Serenata! I wish I could go there too, I just love the rainy season. I think it´s even better than the dry season, the nature in Gambia is so green and beautiful right now.

By the way Gambev, I think I´m having some sort of 30´s crisis. I just feel really old when I think that soon I´ll be 30, when I was 20 I thought 30 is veeeery old. Nowadays I think we women are at our top in the mid 30´s to early 40´s, after that... downhills... everything starts to point to the south. Although you´ll never know, when I see miraclewomen like Sophia Loren I start getting some hope!

Babylon, the nature must be great now! I can almost smell it... But I promised to take care of a sick person from my husband's family, so I will be a little bit busy again. Anyway, let's see. I hope the electoral campaign will be peaceful.

I must admit I´m afraid I´ve already fallen into the shallow mediatrap. And it´s too damn deep to get up from.
How I wish I could just relax and think about how nice old people really look with all the wrinkles and stuff, but honestly -it scares me to death! I´m trying to find the best product aginst wrinkles now already, sleep well, eat right etc. I´m such a geek, if I hear Jennifer Aniston is eating Silicol beauty or Naomi Campbell Imedeen I must try it too. Now I heard Sophia Loren takes baths in olive oil...
I know... ridiculous really.
Like there aren´t other more important worldissues.

Lucky you Serenata - We have just had to cancel our visit.

My first rainy season found me wanting the toilet during the night-time (probable more fluid intake) - with panties on & towel wrapped around the waist I was to navigate the outside loo over the hardcore that had just been put down toward the open facility. But the biggest obstacles came later with torch in one hand, strong umbrella in the other, towel wanting to slip down - the rain making the lino in the open ground toilet & flip-flops slippery – then came the crucial moment – and voice called “you o.k.” I just dissolved into laughter at my emergency & realized I was a mere apprentice in an act of nature!
Any of you ladies been caught out on a first in a foreign country that your not used too?

Safe journey,
regards,

Right, the maple syrup diet... I heard Beyonce used it and lost 6,5 kg in 10 days...
Luckily I´m not into diets, eating properly (and healthy) is important for me.

Sab ! Your story reminds me of my 'nice' show in India: A sudden heavy rain, and no umbrella. Within seconds I looked like 'Miss Wet T-Shirt'. The people of Varanasi laughed a lot; I think it was VERY funny to see me running home, trying to cover the important parts... I hope I'll do better on my first rainy season in Gambia.

Thank you all; I'll try to post from Gambia!

You will enjoy it so much! I too love the rainy season; the rainbows, the lightning shows in the night sky, the biblical rainfalls, the greenery. Landing in Banjul during rainy, you think the pilot has diverted to Ireland, it's so green! All the tourist things are shut down (except a few, maybe Ali Babas I think) and Sundays on the beach is when everyone comes out to play. I might be wrong but I suspect the tourist police don't hassle the locals about being on the beach so much. Oh and the mangoes are pretty good right now.

Did anyone who lives in or near London go to the Out of Africa festival in Haggerston park yesterday? Some great music, food, acrobatics, fire eating, wrestling and stalls. Sadly the weather wasn't remotely African and it was rather sparsely attended.
