Such a project is badly needed and I hope that the money will be used effectively,I have experienced Bara in the rainy season and although the water was not stagnant most of the town was affected by it, there was a distinct lack of any drainage plan.
I being a toubab was walking happily through the lake which had developed near the terminal which was about 6" deep and making my way from used tyre and rock stepping stones,which eventually ran out watched by locals sitting outside their houses on a dry patch,one man shouted, "take care there it is not safe" I waved my hand and said "thanks", I took my next step and the water was much deeper and I fell over,only my left foot had gone down the hole hidden by water and I ended up on my hands and knees.
I expect that that sight caused much laughter amongst the locals watching,but to be fair I didn't hear a sound, how exactly had the man who warned me to take care had known EXACTLY where the hole was in that great lake I have no idea, there is not much to do in Bara except to watch people go by so the hazards from his house must have been engraved in his mind over the years and its location well known to him, the story is probably been told to his grandkids,who will also be amused to visulise the falling down of the toubab
