Have read that Hilary Clinton is now intervening in this immigration limbo experienced by Amadou Ly....

i think if was chinese or afghanistan they would use the diplomatic route and make a case for him to stay. He has completed his education there, is brillant, no harm to anyone. But someone noticed he is african. that is what i think. I do not believe his is the only case of this kind, i think other students have been given leave to stay. but why should this attract publicity, why to they want him to leave. It is now they notice he has overstayed his visa. Yet for Amadou, who helps operate the robot the team built, success has come at a price. As the group prepared for the flight to Atlanta today, he was forced to reveal his secret: He is an illegal immigrant from Senegal, with no ID to allow him to board a plane. Left here long ago by his mother, he has no way to attend the college that has accepted him, and only a slim chance to win his two-year court battle against deportation.

In the end, his fate could hinge on immigration legislation now being debated in Congress. Several Senate bills include a pathway for successful high school graduates to earn legal status.
But a measure passed by the House of Representatives would make his presence in the United States a felony, and both House and Senate bills would curtail the judicial review that allows exceptions to deportation.

If someone comes to a country, legal or illegal, if they are prepared to work and contribute to society MOST people wont have a problem with that.

In Uk there are 2 groups alot of english people have a problem with:
1. People who get to uk with NO intention of working.
2. People who bring in illnesses such as TB and HIV and without contributing anything to the system expect to be treated.

Come on now lets be clear about things life is easier in the West than it is in Africa of that there is no doubt if you want to work and get money then you can,in The UK the Government has admitted that it has no idea at all how many people ( from developing countries in Africa and elswhere) are in the UK without proper papers MANY live decent lives, there are however some who sponge of the state and get benefits and housing without being entitled to it, because the authorities,or rather the employees of the authorities are FRIGHTENED that if such people are refused benefits then,"its only because I am black that you are doing this" will be shouted out loud.I would really love to see a black person say that what I have written does sometimes happen, but no I suspect that I will be branded a racist. After all a black person is perfect, arn't they?

"Simple is good" & I strongly dislike politics. You cannot defend the indefensible.

Lemontime.

Tb is not a problem to the majority of people in the west. Happily because of screening and good treatment it is almost wiped out. (It is making a come back in the asian population though).

Clearly HIV is no respector of colour, so a promiscuous white tourist will be in a high risk group, the same as a promiscuous black person.

Those old ladies you see with the young boys yuk! I have a problem with that too! But if they are making each other happy? Who are we to judge? Would you consider these boys prostitutes? Or are they just toy boys?

Lemon time I am interested to know what age gap you think is acceptable and how old is TOO old?! LOL!!!

Seriously though, if it is a consensual relationship should we interfere?

But on the other hand, no one wants to see the Gambia get a reputation for sex tourism. If more legitimate work was availble to these young men perhaps the sight of a 70 year old women with a 20 year old man would lessen? But £20 a month for working all hours compared with a meal ticket for life? If you were poor and vunerable which would you prefer?

Barclays are not an ethical bank! When I was a student they were heavily involved in South Africa and most students wouldnt bank with them because of it.
