I don't deny that a visa is required to travel to the west,no in that sense people are not free, all I was trying to do was to explain why SOME Africans and others from developing countries,(bad way of putting it, OK countries that have not got western values) have got a bad name, would Gambia give a house ,benefits to a person who arrived from another country and had no intention of paying taxes and working ,I very much doubt it, I am of course in no way referring to the poor unfortunate people who have been forced to flee their country because of violence and war.A more recent development is the enlargement of the EU (Why Europe should want it I have no idea!!)This has created a vast amount of labour from Eastern Europe (OK they are free to travel, I know)which means that people from Developing countries who mostly are not in the EU have a difficult time to get a job, because the Eastern Europians have taken them all, those like me who have "become lost in the western world" can never forget The Gambia and those brothers and sisters who are left there mostly in poverty, and who have learnt to trade on the name of The Smiling Coast.I feel for them,Home is home and will always be. |

It's good to see an happy ending in Amadou Ly's case. He really deserved a break and an opportunity to fulfil his true potential. I'm glad that US is revising its immigration policy to give illegal law- abiding immigrants the opportunity to get a stay and to contribute to society. After all US was built on immigration. EU governments also need to revise their immigration policies to allowing quotas of migrant worforces from Africa and elsewhere to work.
Peace

Great. so I shall sign all your names on my card to Amadou???
Sernata, Im very fortunate to be somewhat isolated from the larger world. Im probably 6 hours away to Australia or Micronesia. Our forum listings of location do not list the Hawaiian islands, so I choose Western Samoa which is fairly close... .... |
