Bro,
I have not been to the Gambia since last year. I don't know about the said drink either. It was a humanmistake. On the topic of cleanliness and health issues, we must not compromise. If you people have been living in dirt and smell of rutten fish ect. you would have reacted. Remember , the person you oppose to about the cleaning is not affected. He lives and sleeps in an enviroment without mosquitoes and smell. If you love your country , you must say the truth. I am not a Gambian voter. I have given up my passport to FAFA. Nowadays, I am very concerned about people who give bad names to our country. Most of you who oppose to ht ecleaning, have you suggested to your different minucipals how it should be carried on? Dont blame government for your own mistake. I understand why some of you on the forum are against this without a clue of why. Even if you oppose, please remember, governments change but the Gambia is always Gambia. You are educated enough to seperate centeral government and lokal governments responsibility. Ask the NAAD members or the UDP/NRP. if they speak the truth they will inform you correctly without grudges. You must pu the health issues at the front of everything, otherwise we shall experience what South Africa. Being careless can cost Gambia a lot. Not only money wise but also educated ones.

If the municipal authorities don’t know how to clean the environment then they should resign. It is not my job to do their job for them. They may not know how to clean but during the Algali Commission, they knew how to collect pensions of dead persons for years. In addition, they know how to keep their own homes sparkling yet they don’t know how to do their jobs.

IF YOU CANNOT TAKE THE HEAT, GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN. WE ARE NOT DEALING WITH SCHOOL CHILDREN I HOPE. WE NEED COMPETENT PEOPLE WHO KNOW WHTA IS EXPECTED OF THEM RATHER THAN BEING SPOON FED BY US.

IN THE UNITED STATES, BURNING THE FLAG IS SEEN AS A SIGN OF PATRIOTISM, TO PROTEST THE WRONGS AND ALSO FREE SPEECH. IN FACT SOME MEMEBERS OF CONGRESS WROTE A PIECE OF LEGISLATION BANNING THE BURNING OF THE NATIONAL FLAG, WHICH FAILED TO PASS. IF YOU LOOK AT THE ONE DALLAR BILL, YOU WILL SEE AN INCOMPLETE PYRAMID. What THE FOUNDING FATHRES WANT TO EXPALIN IS THAT NATION BULIDING IS NEVER COMPLETE. IN AFRICA, UNFORTUNATELY IS COMPLTED THROUGH GAGGING OF FREE SPEECH AND ASSOCTION AND THE RIGHT TO ASSEMBLE.

INFACT IN THE U.S, YOU HAVE A RIGHT UNDER THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT TO DEMAND OF PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS COPIES OF OFFICIAL DOCUMENT AND WHICH SHALL NOT BE UNDUELY DENIED. IN AFRICA, WHENEVER YOU CRTITICIZE, YOU ARE CONSIDERED AN ENEMEY. NO WONDER WE ARE WHERE WE ARE AND WILL ALWAYS BE. CRITICISM IS VERY HEALTHY FOR DEVELOPMENT AND IF YOU OCCUPY PUBLIC OFFICE, YOU MUST BE READY TO BE CRITICISED. AFETR ALL WE ARE PAYING THEIR SALARIES.

kondorong, in another forum we (and you too) are just discussing HIV in Africa, and it is a fact that in a clean environment HIV is less virulent. Most Gambian houses I know are very clean, but what about the streets? Children are playing there, and it could happen that they get an infection from the waste in the streets. If I had children living in Gambia I would not wait for the officials to do what I can do.

i dont think this statement is true. HIV can only be transmitted through contact of bodily fluids. perhaps what you mean is that once a person develops AIDS at which stage the immune system is totally gone any thing can kill the person,TB, tetanus, malaria, cholera etc. the last three are associated with bad sanitation.

HIV and AIDs are not the same. AIDS can't give you HIV but HIV will lead to AIDS.

Yes, once you have fullblown aids, you have a poor immune system and are prone to diseases. In the Uk it is often pneumonia that kills the person in the end. They need to live in an environment free of infection as much as is humanly possible and of course, have access to the best drugs. There isnt a cure YET, but people are living reasonably long lives with the illness in the west now.

I suggest you educate your people at home so as to challange their council members to whom they pay tax.You not supporting it is useless, because you are not in the Gambia and you dont have mosquitoes arround you. Gambia deserves a very clean enviroment.

YES WE DESERVE A CLEAN ENVIRONMENT BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN WE HAVE TO BE FORCED TO CLEAN. THERE IS A CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATION BETWEEN THE STATE AND CITIZENS. CITIZENS PAY TAXES FOR SERVICES TO BE PROVIDED AND WE ARE DOING JUST THAT. WE CANNOT PAY OUR TAXES AND THEN BE THREATENED WITH DISMISSALS IF WE DO NOT VOLUTEER. KMC IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CLEANING AND SHOULD PROVIDE IT. IF ONLY THEY ARE NOT BUYING PENCILS FOR D100.00 EACH, WE COULD HAVE CLEANED OUR ENVIRONMENT. CHECK RESULTS OF COMMISSION OF ENQUIRY

It is a pity that you are not fighting this problem there but on the forum. I think it is left to you to put forward your views to those responsible. Have the citizins questioned the different areacouncils and BCC? Sometimes you miss points because , I would rather call a meeting with the councilor responsible for the area and question him. If he /she does not give satisfactory answers, vote him/her out the next elections. Gambians complain a lot without trying to remedy things themselves. You have'nt spoken the truth. If you live in the Gambia, you would not react this way. The Problem of Malaria is a big issue in Africa and also health issues. Clean up yor areas so as to be mosquito free especially now doring the rains. Are you mybe one of the prevelidged that can afford mosquitoe nets and medecine you forget the rest? It does not make sense because you oppose the government, so you careless if your enviroment is dirty. Public health is not only government a issue, but everybodys. Your points do not make sense at all if you live in the Gambia. Even foriegners who reside in the Gambia support the idea. You must be an exception together with Lemon Time. Is he in the Gambia or Cape Town?
