It appears that Watchman's apology is only directed to the die-heart and insulate Ayatollah Sallah disciples rather than the entire membership of Bantaba. I think he wasted his time and interllect in doing so for these people deserves no apology.

I think watchman could do good by not letting the heat off these people. Otherwise, they will continue to believe that only their Ayatollah is right on all issues and anybody else who dare to dissent is wrong, which is a big fallacy that has become poisnous to their own mental wellbeing. So it is better that these people are saved from themselves rather being given fuel to continue on their path of delusionment

Nyarikangbanna,

I get the drift of your thoughtful suggestion. My apology is broad-based, meaning it is directed towards the diverse membership of the forum, including followers of the "Ayatollah" himself. I believe that when one faces die-hard types like the ones you pointed out, engaging them in an indirect manner far different than what they expected is more likely to yield a productive discourse than the tit for tat that has become the trademark of some of our public disagreements on Gambian politics. Someone said and I paraphrase that "In fighting monsters, we should take care not to become monsters ourselves." I buy into in this mantra unequivocally. This does not mean I believe that one should always project "softness" in dealing with differing views; rather, my take is that one should speak softly and carry a massive stick.

LOOK AT YOU AGAIN IN THE MIRROR OF HATE & A HARD CORE TRIBALIST! WHERE IS IT MENTIONED BY THE WATCHMAN IN QUESTIONING OR CHALLENGING HALIFA SALLAH'S INTEGRITY OR INTELLECTUAL CALIBRE; WHOM YOU WANT TO MARKET THIS STIGMA OF "AYATOLLAH"?

WATCHMAN IS CARRIED OVER WITH THAT ARROGANT TITLE OF "AYATOLLAh" AND OWE APOLOGY TO HALIFA SALLAH OR SHOULD WITHDRAW HIS OFFENSIVE COMMENT ALSO

THATS THE PETTI POLITICS, PERSONAL ATTACKS AND SMEARING I WOULD NEVER RELENT TO ACCEPT HERE IN BANTABA!

Well, unlike the UDP leader, at least, Sallah is not retired already from the politics due to age and he is much more capable than the UDP leader who has no clue about politics, no heart in political struggle. Sallah, who is willing to be a general fighting on the front, has political intelligence/knowledge, and he is the ONLY viable alternative Gambians can rely on.

diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.

Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices.

Guys,
Let's not turn this to a food fight about how our beloved political figures are called. Kobo, my apologies for calling Mr. Halifa Sallah the "Ayatollah". Like Rodney King said after his brutal beat down by crooked LA cops "Cant we all just get along?"

I wasn't surprised to see The Gambia shed Iran when I woke up this morning. Here's my 2 cents on the affair:

Watchman, thanks for your comments. It is clear that the responses to my posting [apart from yours] have vindicated the points I've raised with regards to your apology. That is a great source of joy to me as it means job done.

I finally believed that you are a tribalist and if this is what udp is all about they will never rule the gambia. Gambians are tired of the politics of the 70's which was about tribe. If you hate Yahya because he is a jola shame on you because he is ruling and continues to rule. What are you going to do? Go to the gambia and talk **** to him.
What the gambia needs is not tribalist but the Halifas. Sidia and Halifa are inseparable so you can talk to sidia all you want and avoid Halifa. The two shares the same ideologies and there relationship is what all gambians needs

Watchman, I must join the lot in commending you for the bold move in your attempt to reinject tolerance and mature discussions into our daily issues. It takes courage and intellectual maturity to embrace dissent and see others in your own shoes...

I am a deep admirer of your intellectual writings and power to persuade through your presentations.

Our society is still in infant stages on cyber space. We have grown from year to year and from strength to strength with each passing day.

I strongly believe that with people of your calibre in our midst shaping mature debates, mirroring professionalism in presenting the issues many of us will learn to master the art of communication in cyber space. I am really optimistic about the prosperity of Gambians in cyber space measuring to the rest of the world sooner rather than later.

Please keep it up as we can only change the way people think and see things by engaging them no matter how painful and tempting it may be sometimes... dissent is simply a beautiful thing and it demonstrates how the human mind works..

Thank you for a great blog!!!

It is with deep regrets that DIRECT PERSONAL cheap shots, character assassination & despicable comments are always levied against Halifa out of the blue; without concentrating on the issues tabled for discussion and for understanding divergent views & opinions.

EVERY GAMBIAN KNEW VERY WELL THAT HALIFA IS NOT INTERESTED IN TITLES; NAMELY PRESIDENT, MINISTER, ETC APART FROM A HUMBLE SERVANT TO THE NATION IN PARTICIPATING IN GAMBIAN POLITICS! "AYATALLAH" IS HATE IDEA OF NYARIKANGBANNA / DAFFEH AND ANYBODY WHO REFER TO IT IS NOT MAKING A FAIR COMMENT AGAINST ONE OF THE MOST HARD WORKING GAMBIAN POLITICIANS; CURRENT & ADDRESSING ALL ASPECTS OF NATIONAL ISSUES!

THE PETTINESS AND PARTY POLITICS IS JUST TO SHIFT ATTENTION FROM THE NATIONAL ISSUES, WHICH PDOIS IS WORKING 24/7 TIRELESSLY TO ADDRESSED. WHERE IS UDP & CONSTITUTIONAL LAWYER DARBOE WITH THESE NATIONAL ISSUES DEBATED & ADDRESSED BY PDOIS FOR EXAMPLE;

1. WITCH HAUNT EXERCISE

2. SUPREME ISLAMIC COUNCIL Vs IMAM BAA KAWSU

3. TREASON TRIALS & DEATH PENALTY

4. REMOVAL OF SPEAKER

5. JAMMEH'S CORONATION

PDOIS came to radicalise Gambian politics merely challenging ALL CITIZENS TO EXERCISE THEIR RIGHTFUL NATIONAL STATUS TO ESTABLISH THE IDEAL GOVERNMENT THEY WANT FOR ITS COUNTRY! THEY WERE THE FIRST ELITE WHO SACRIFICE EVERYTHING INCLUDING BRIGHT CAREERS TO ESTABLISH A POLITICAL PARTY TO ELIMINATE POLITICS OF OPPORTUNISM AMONGST OTHERS. THEY ARE OPEN TO ACCEPT ANY CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISMS AND VERY WELCOMING TO MORE GAMBIAN ELITES BUT DUE TO INTELLECTUAL DIS-HONESTY THEY ARE UNFAIRLY STIGMATISED SINCE PPP DAYS! HOWEVER TELL ME WHAT IS THEIR POLITICAL "DOGMA" & DESCRIBE CONGREGATION OF "DOGMATIC FANATICS" FROM THESE COMMENTS QUOTED BELOW;

"As the backlash from a community I thought would accept my worldview without skepticism sank in, I found it hard to immediately change course and adapt. I churlishly went into "self-imposed exile", refusing to participate in what I started calling a congregation of "dogmatic" fanatics whose members were mostly PDOIS die-hards waiting to pounce on anyone with a divergent perspective on the bona fides of Halifa Sallah and co. I taunted the Bantabaa with snide asides in comments made on other media, chuckling as I reveled in the idea of "sticking it" to my insignificant antagonists."

I THOUGHT YOUR TAKE IS AN "APOLOGY TO BANTABA IN CYBERSPACE" AND NOT PDOIS ONLINE? I DON'T DIGEST EASILY, SO WATCHMAN IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO PLEASE ELABORATE WHERE YOU COMING FROM

Kobo,
Once more, I was/still am showing why I had to change tact and review my stance on Bantaba in Cyberspace and the INCORRECT perception that anyone who supports PDOIS and Halifah Sallah (held by me) is one of my reasons. I hope this clears the air and helps you digest the crux of my apology.

Demba, thanks for the kind words. The apology is geared towards you a lot and you know why

Kobo,I suggest you get your mind off some of the comments here that you did not like by perusing this:
