A 13-year-old school boy, Alieu Keita died over the weekend in a ditch containing dirty water at the Bakoteh dumpsite, this paper confirmed.
According to Daily news sources, the incident happened on Saturday 11th August 2018, when the young boy got into one of the stagnant waters to swim but could not get out of the ditch that was four meters deep. He reportedly went to the site with some of his playmates as it was within their neighbourhood to play. Witnesses narrated to Daily news how young Alieu decided to plunge into the water and could not get out. His playmates had to run home to tell people that Alieu had fallen into the water at the dumpsite and could not come out.
When the Fire and Rescue Services personnel were contacted, they quickly showed up to help but Alieu was already dead.
His body was pulled out and rushed to the Sere kunda General Hospital where he was pronounced dead but the body had to be referred to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital for a post mortem.
Alieu was expected to be laid to rest on Sunday at Manjai Kunda Central Cemetery. He was attending Bakoteh Annex School and was in grade two and was described by parents in the neighbourhood as a very fine and cleaver boy. Alieu’s elder sister, Kadijatou and parents could not comment at the time of his death due to emotions.

Meanwhile, an elderly man who lives around the dumpsite for many years says that Alieu’s case is the first time that the site has claimed a human life, but it has always posed health hazard for people.
The dumpsite, he further went on, needed to be fenced properly to avoid children using it as a playground. He therefore advised that KMC must tighten up its security to avert any similar and possible happening in future. “The dumpsite is so porous that children in the vicinity get in and out any how they want and that must be stopped now,” the old man remarked.

"Simple is good" & I strongly dislike politics. You cannot defend the indefensible.
