Passengers and Commuters Express Dismay Over Poor Road Network in Wuli

Passengers, commuters and residents of both Wuli West and Wuli East have expressed dismay over what they described as the worst poor road networks particularly in the Wulis.
This according to them did not only create transportation difficulties for the people in the said area, but also poses a great set back for all the development activities in the area. Speaking to this reporter an international development consultant who claims to be on a very important mission to the region of URR for possible intervention said he cannot imagine such types of roads in existence in the Gambia after using the north bank road. According to him road network is one of the ingredients that contributes towards the development of any nation but said the situation of roads in Wuli is far from that reality. He pointed out that he was only supposed to spend two days going by his plan of action but stressed that he could not achieve his intended objectives because of the poor road conditions in URR and Wuli in particular.
One Momodou Touray who claims to be a native of Wuli Barrow Kunda said the road network linking Baja Kunda and Sutukoba is in a very terrible condition and damaged beyond imagination. He stated that residents of Foday Kunda, Chamoi, Baja Kunda, Brifu and Bantunding all in the Wuli East always find it difficult to have transport to Basse due to the Poor road network.
According to One Lamin Touray of Sutukoba, no commercial vehicle plies between Basse and Sutukoba as at now because of the terrible road conditions. He said commuters have to go all the way to Chamoi Bunda by donkey cart or motor bicycle to pick transport for Basse.
Asked which specific areas of the road are damaged, Lamin said the culvert between Chamoi and Bantunding, the one between Bantunding and Baja Kunda, the two culverts between Baja Kunda and Sutukoba, etc have were destroyed since last year and have not been rehabilitated since then. He said the little effort done by the villagers last year have been washed away by the erosion this year.
Lamin also said it is only tractors that are being utilised to ferry passengers because no other vehicle dare venture on the path.
The drivers and commuters all called on the authorities to remedy the situation since according to them the road is not only benefiting the people of Wuli, but the entire region of URR and the Gambia at large, as government officers, NGOs, ambulance vehicles etc all ply the same roads.

He did not visit this area. During his speech in Basse he said that there will be no development in the area unless they vote for him. |

Thanks for the clarification,I do not know anything about these places can you give some information,nearest big town and are these villages in the middle of nowhere and isolated ?.

OK I have never travelled that far on the North Bank Road they appear to be on the edge of The Gambia, "Off course a place will be isolated when there are no proper roads and development such as infrastructure is neglected." Bet there is no mobile phone network either ! |

So is it now in the public domain that votes = development and if you don't vote for him there will be no investment? 
I still think many Gambians don't understand that it IS NOT his personal money to do with as he wishes. It is the peoples money raised by taxes etc
Development should be according to the governments business plan for priorities..Nothing to do with who votes what!!!! |
