GRADE 12 WAEC RESULTS ARE OUT BUT… A Student’s Merry Go Round
By Publisher on 04-09-10

A student went to his school to collect his WAEC Grade 12 exam results. He was told that he had to go to the WAEC in Banjul to get his results. He was told that he would have to pay an extra 100 dalasis to the council to have access to his results. He had to come to the Foroyaa office to get clarity. The student indicated that he had assumed that the exam fees contain all necessary cost.

Foroyaa contacted the education Department to find out whether they had issued any statement on the WAEC Grade 12 results but up to the time of going to press we could not get any answers. Finally the student was asked to go to the WAEC for his results.
This is what happened.
1. He had to spend 100 dalasis to purchase a result checker card. After purchasing the card he was given the following notice:

WEST AFRICAN EXAMINATIONS COUNCIL
PM.B 158
BANJUL OFFICE

DIRECTIONS FOR CHECKING RESULTS ON WAEC DIRECT ONLINE RESULTS CHECKER

TO CHECK RESULTS ONLINE FOLLOW THESE STEPS:
1. CLICK TOOLS ON THE BROWSER WINDOW
2. TURN OFF POP-UP BLOCKER
3. TYPE http://www.waecgambia.org/resultchecker/ ON ADDRESS BAR
AND FOLLOW THE STEP ON THE ONLINE FORM.
THANK YOU
FOR: AG. HEAD OF NATIONAL OFFICE, WAEC, BANJIJL OFFICE

The student had to go and look for an internet café to check his results. He also had to pay to get a print out.

Editorial Note
The Principals of schools had insisted that parents pay exam fees before their children could sit to the exams. Schools used to take the initiative to prepare results slips and sign them to authenticate the results of the students pending the issuance of a certificate. Now some schools are asking the students to go to the council while others give them the results to be written by hand by the students. It is not clear whether result slips would follow. Many students are confused. They are not sure whether they would get results slips from the school to be used pending the issuance of their certificates. Foroyaa will contact the principals, the WAEC and the education authorities who should issue a statement on the issue even before any inquiry is made.

Momodou.I think that this is a real sign of progress although it has obviously been handled very badly by the education department who should have taken steps to inform the public of the new way of doing things, that they didn't do,The D.O.would have been only too pleased to provide a public announcement as would GRTS I am sure.a failure and heads should roll.
The West African Examination Council have put a lot of work into this project and there is the added benefit that "back handers" (OK corruption ! )cannot take place in order for the student to obtain a print out of the results, however enterprising criminals will no doubt make forgeries of the printed results,I do expect that arrangements are in hand to stop this should it occour.
I am sorry to have to remind Gambians that things are no longer free but must be paid for now,the time of receiving everything from others for free has gone forever.

THIS WAS A FREE SERVICE OBVIOUSLY !

So pleased that grade 12 results are out earlier than originally expected. 'My' boy got 8 credits and one pass (maths) and I am delighted!

Does anyone know when grade 9 will come out as have three more children waiting for those results?

We are trying first for the university. They also run a year's founfation course if they wont take him straight on to the degree course. He wants to do Law - which is fine (if that's what he wants and not what the family want!) but I can't help thinking that there are so to be too many lawyers! I was hoping he might do International Development Studies but becuase it's new he doesn't really understand it. Just thought there might be interesting possibilities in the future with a degree in that!
