Massive Sacking at NDEA
Sacked officers fear their lives may be at risk

By: Abdoulie Nget

At least twenty drug officers have been dismissed from the National Drug Enforcement Agency recently, The Daily News reveals.

This development came barely four months after the sacking of the ex- drug chief Ebrima Bun Sanneh who is undergoing trial for numerous offences ranging from corruption to drugs.

Some of the officers sacked include one of Bun Sanneh’s son and others close to him, our source said.

The alleged sacked officers are first class Yaya Badjie, first class Modou Sanneh, and son of the former drug boss, sub-inspector Musa Krubally, inspector (Assan) Yusupha Badjan , inspector Nyakassi Jammeh, inspector Samba Jawo, who served for about 28 years in the service, corporal Abdoulie Saidy commonly known as Pierre, chief superintendent Anty Fanneh, Nyimanding Tamba, inspector Anty Luise, corporal Lamin Bojang, sergeant Salifu Sanneh , inspector Edirisa Sanneh, first class Manka Fadera, a first class Awa Darboe, Sufie Njie, first class Alhagie Bettaye, inspector Musa Jarju, were all sacked. The names of the other sacked officers are not yet confirmed.

Abdoulie Saidy a victim who served over four years as a drug officer said the reason for his sacking is still not known to him, saying that he was just from Kiang Keneba were he was posted and got a call from his friend Yaya Badjie who was also sacked told him that some officers have been relieved of their duties. He said when he asked whether he was part of the sacked officers, Yaya answered in the negative

According to Saidy, he went ahead to ask Commissioner Essa Sarr who told him that it is true and later gave him his dismissal letter. Saidy said this took him by surprise, because no reason/s was advanced for his sacking.

Threat and Fear

Abdoulie Saidy explained further that he has arrested many people during their operations, and fought with many others and sometimes even got wounded by in executing his duty in the fights against drugs in the country. He said now that he has been sacked, some people would see him as an enemy and his life maybe at risk.

He went on to say that even before his sacking, he used to receive call threats from different people most of whose relatives are languishing in jail. He expressed fear that he may be hunted.

Effect on his livelihood

“My parents have passed away and all my younger brothers are solely dependent on me as well as my wife and kid,” explained Abdoulie Saidy.

“My dismissal will have a negative an impact on my life and that of my family. I have no job and have to provide feeding, clothing and shelter among others for my family. My personal security is what matters to me most,” he added.

Faith

When asked how he felt after receiving his sacking letter, he said that he just felt that his time in the drug enforcement agency is over and he has taken it in good faith. “It was my time and that’s all. It was God who appointed me and now I am sacked. That’s the way I see it”, he said.

Manka Fadera another sacked officer who joined the service in 2008 expressed the similar sentiments.

The public relation officer of the NDEA chief inspector Abdoulie Ceesay has however declined to comment. “I am sorry! I cannot comment on this issue. I am sorry for any inconvenience, OK,” he said.

Toubab, I feel sorry that you feel that way but people may have different reasons for not commenting. One of it might be that they don't know much about it, themselves.

Regards
