This link above is a paper written by Matt Jallow on the pages of the The Gambia Echo.
In the paper Matt, often dubbed "The rebel without a cause" who once unilaterally dissolved the GPU/USA and appointed himself its leader in what was widely considered a "bloodless coup"; identified tribe as the silent driving force in Gambian politics. Matt's 'tribal theory' is largely inspired by what seems to be the ongoing confrontation between UDP/UK, a fire-brand puritanical external wing of the mainland UDP and the supporters of PDOIS on Bantaba.
Matt's theory may be generally true, but with regards to the ongoing debate between UDP/UK and "PDOIS proxies", he is ill informed and over-ambitious in his conclusions.
I am everything but tribalist. I have said it here that I am so beyond tribe that "I don't even teach my kids my ethnic language". Unlike Matt who is a registered member of Hamat Bah's NRP (whom he has identidied as a tribal politician, I don't associate with tribal politics or politicians who espouse tribal interests.
I challenge Matt to identify any tribal position I have taken in all of my arguments with the UDP/UK. All my arguments are based on factual statements regarding the formation and disintegration of NADD.
Unfortunately, in writing what could have been an informative and educative paper, Matt's specific theory and assumptions lacks substance and only amounts to a show of excessive pomposity and verbiage. Thank you.

I guess before we start this discussion we have to first state what tribe are we going to associate PDOIS with?

Personally I have always seen PDOIS as a party of intellectuals whose policies are beyond the average Gambian. This coupled with the fact that PDOIS has never been involved with the politics of drum beats and buying votes are the party’s problems.

you are just funny!!! A country where politics is the exclusively domain of "laymen (non-intelectuals), drum beaters, and vote buyers"...? That is not PDOIS' "problem". That is the Gambia's problem!!!
Are you saying that APRC beats the loudest drum and buys the most votes, then UDP next in line ?

Kay I will keep my day job. I do not think I am funny at all.

If PDOIS is in the business of winning then PDOIS should see the problems associated with Gambian Politics as its problem. See the links below. PDOIS Party is too rigid if you ask me, the party does not relate to the average Gambian voter.
What tribe are we going to associate PDOIS WITH?

"Needless to say, the UDP and APRC had edge over NADD regarding material and human resources. In comparison to the two, the APRC had overwhelmingly edge in terms of material and human resources In short one could not see the distinction between state and party. Governors of divisions, chiefs of districts, heads of villages, heads of institutions, prominent members of the business community, the army, police, NIA were all associated with the President's campaign. Vehicles with numberless plates were distributed all over the country." Halifa Sallah
