The constitution of any nation is made up of codes of conducts - meaning what is acceptable and what is not... I think every viable organization must have a code of conduct...
Political organizations cannot be run like lose cannons... Any party run by this criteria risk resembling APRC which is a one man know it all party...
While I disagree with the rigid so called codes of conduct of PDOIS to the detriment of our political process, it scares me to hear that UDP does not have a code of conduct... it may not be written but there are certainly acceptable standards for the party.
An intellectual person like Darboe will not head an organization which has no moral code of conduct...
I think Nyari should reconsider that statement that "UDP does not have codes of conduct". The main branch of the UDP party has codes of conduct thus the reason why they don't respond to flaming acusations...
In addition, it is easy to put together a party manifestor just to qualify to register and contest elections, but in actual sense what is the manifestor that Gambian opposition parties has that was different from what used to be PPP, NCP, NDAM, GPP, etc???
This debate is revealing the fundamental problems of partisan politics among Gambian Diasporians...
There is certainly a lot to learn... not every jack and jill knows about partisan politics.... |

IN SIMPLE TERMS; PDOIS code of conduct are moral ethics, duties of a citizen & awareness expected from ANY PDOIS MEMBER TO PROTECT & PRESERVE THE INTEGRITY OF THE PARTY IN SERVING THE NATION!
It serves as basic guidance to ALL PDOIS MEMBERS HOW TO SERVE THE PARTY IN THE INTERESTS OF THE COMMUNITY!
It is not a Party manifesto on broader policies and programmes of PDOIS party. Also it is not a strategic plan for achieving goals or a winning formula!
dBaldeh how can you state this inter alia; "The constitution of any nation is made up of codes of conducts - meaning what is acceptable and what is not... I think every viable organization must have a code of conduct..." Surely PDOIS is viable and The Constitution of any nation is the law of the land!
To Professor Janko (editor in chief) and dBaldeh amongst others, please review UDP manifesto to keep you busy with petty comments & weak scrutiny in trying to discredit PDOIS code of conduct, if you don't know what is a code of conduct and/or cannot differentiate a code of conduct, a strategic plan and a manifesto
Although there is a related Bantaba Gambian politics topic on UDP manifesto I have referred to The Point newspaper to foward the manifesto with heading; UDP, NRP and GPDP 2006 Party Manifesto.
