After poor turnouts at the recent presidential tour in the Kiangs, some chiefs received their marching orders from the powers above.
http://observer.gm/africa/gambia/article/kiang-west-east-chiefs-fired
Someone should probably start a "rent-a-crowd" business to save jobs and grease the wheels of politics.. it could also provide employment for idle youths during the upcoming election season. The Rent-a-crowd business is very prevalent in Nigeria and they usually get results.. http://www.ngonewsafrica.org/2010/02/nigeria-in-abuja-it-pays-to-rent-crowd.html
How do they mobilize their crowd? Although they wouldn't admit to hiring crowds, Daily Trust found out that the professional crowd renters use their 'agents' in the suburbs of the federal capital territory, who in turn recruit idle youth to be rented. These youths referred to as 'delegates', are then conveyed in hired vehicles, and taken to the programme venues at the end of which each of them is paid between N500 to N1000 for their services.
They are also provided with materials such as posters, banners and T-shirts bearing the required solidarity messages for the events. 'Delegates' who travel from other parts of the country, are given accommodation in designated hotels, at the end of which they are 'settled' to return to their respective destinations.

Prince,of course there is a rent a crowd ,in UK for instance it is under the guise of The Socialist workers party who are basically a load of left wing activists that want publicity and will do anything to promote their ideas, especially if they get paid for it brother ! On the whole The AVERAGE Gambian (although he does suffer some faults) is generally a quiet and peaceful person who dosn't want trouble, just wants to be left alone and have enough to eat and look after his family, and is not really interested at all in politics or leaders, nothing to do with him at all so its hardly surprising that if any leader or politician visits they have to whip up interest, through their political friends and appointees (in this case the Chiefs) who mostly are Average Gambians with a few more opportunities to make money! |

It is sure worth it Kitab... if it helps the chiefs keep their jobs. Does not matter if it's faked, people like to follow mobs. Thinking of it closer; several people, like Moe our main man, are often loaded on to trucks and taken to rallies just to be rewarded with oily "Benachins." Isn't this a form of "rent-a-crowd." The Benachin crowd hardly know about policies or ideas of the candidates they follow. The same folks often do not mind going to naming ceremonies or weddings uninvited...
@Toubab, I didn't know "crowds for hire" are in the UK, very interesting.... I am not talking about "renting" the average Gambian. I'm referring to the average idle Attaya drinking youth. |

"the average idle Attaya drinking youth." Prince,I understand that you are speaking about young men here MOST of these people have no jobs,no prospect of EVER having a job,so they have NO money, what do they do with their time to stop themselves becoming very bored ? go to nightclubs or other places of entertainment ? NO why ? NO money, look after their health by excercise, running along the beach for instance YES.why it costs nothing ! so if you are such a youth and hear about an opportunity when you can PERHAPS earn a little money and have a day out that will cost you nothing, you take it .what do you have to do ? be there shout and clap and praise when your "employer"comes along, easy. Its a bit like groupies that follow pop stars except in this case I suspect that the inner feelings of the youths MAYBE slightly different from the adoring pop groupie. |

LOL I don't think Moe would be a reluctant participant... based of the little I gathered from the able and patriotic investigators; Moe, our man, will settle for even sugarless Biscuits on dusty roads. |

you seen who loaded on a lorry to be enticed by oily Benachin's?, Thats for the Wollof boys and the boys from Banjul. I am a Durang type of brother, the type of Durang that has no meat or fish. Have you ever been up country Kitab. Thats the only kind of Sauce that can make me jump on a lorry and quite possibly get some Ghee from Demba the cow rearer up the street to top it off. Only Durang can make me jump on a lorry Kitab. Yes Prince I am a cheap brother, cookies on the side walk on the ground and all. I have the 10 second rule, within 10seconds it's still good. Kitab just a bit caught up these days going through a transition with our ERP system but I will be back with a vengeance soon, meanwhile don't believe the hype and as for you Prince Johnson and thats all I gotta say...................................................Peacequote: Originally posted by Kitabul Arerr
