Antouman Saho the former Fisheries minister and national mobilizer for the APRC recently released from jail writes, with salutations and praises to the man who fired him and threw him in jail indefinitely without trial, President Jammeh; apparently looking for a job. Have you heard of a "battered woman syndrome"? How about a "battered Gambian syndrome"?

Hey don't you like us. We are the "Smiling Coast". At the end of the day, we strike a deal and we all go home smiling again . The atrocities of yesterday are buried for ever. No responsibility, no accountability... |

Kay,
It is exactly because of such behavior that I came to the conclusion that Gambians are deserving of the Sheikh. I mean how can you fight for the rights of a person with such mentality. |

How on earth can the government lock this fool up without charging him, release him and he turns around to thank the President. The Gambia is now full of educated citizens who act like slaves. Nyaka Jumm! Gambian have a long way to go before citizens’ stand up for their rights. This is a shame.

Such behaviour appears to be incomprehensible, but look at the realities of life in The Gambia,No job, means that you will have to rely on others for feeding of yourself and family, where in the past life you had everything was very easy and good, you leave prison where you have been put by the administration with whome you are no longer friends, wait a moment..........that administration I worked for in a past life must have forgiven me,they have let me out....perhaps I stand a chance of getting back into employment if that is the case...let me do all I can to make it happen.

I have said in one of my postings and mentain the same stance that sycophancy is the yardstick to be employed by yaya Jammeh and working under under him EQUATES TO SLAVERY.
But the fate of Yankuba Touray should be a lesson to Antoman Sahor. I believe that there is life without jammeh's job and will not morgage my liberty for a position in which I will be enslave.... gush ...i rather die poor and umemployed, but mentain my freedom and digity. |

The sycophancy going on is incredible. People get fired and yet they continue going to Kanilie in order for them to be seen as being loyal and maybe be recycled. |

It boils down to conviction, beliefs and principles. If you have a strong conviction you can be steadfast in your beliefs and uphold your principles. If you do not have a strong conviction, or any conviction at all, you are just like "a chaff in the wind" to be blown everywhere.
There are people who live by their conscience; such people have inculcated values which always brings out the best of their humanity. They live by principles which are very difficult to compromise. They rather alienate themselves than submit to an authority which is abusive and disrespectful.
My respects to the many people who maintain their principles, come rain or shine; and some have gone to their graves with their integrity intact. Some are growing old in exile, and if they no longer have any voice; and if the struggle has outlived their purpose and usefulness, they are comforted in the belief that they have never compromised their conscience, their beliefs and their principles. They will quietly live in the shadows and patiently wait for the hour when they will rejoin their ancestors. To such a people life indeed has a purpose.

A lovely post,if you want to live with your principals intact in exile, waiting for the second world where all is peace and light, you will be rewarded and content. If you want to live in Gambia as it is now then you may have to review your principals.

You still live everyday in Gambia with your family ? If you do and can maintain your principals then very good,if you live everyday outside The Gambia, then your principals would not be hard to live by.
