Like it's been stated Santafara doctor doctor and maybe next year it will be doctor , doctor, doctor. universities and Colleges will award an honorary doctorate to a person who has made substantial achievements in or contributions to their professional field, and named individual need not have a connection to the institution in question. While ya'll busy spreading hatred others are recognizing the work of a visionary leader. "Sa politic Dafa Mankeh" even President Barack Obama holds an honorary doctorate from Knox College, A college that has no graduate program and does not confer doctorates to regularly matriculated students. But dealing with half baked brothers is A typically of misinformation. My plan is to take ya'll to the depths of hell and back........................................Peace

Empty barrels makes the most noise!!!! Despotic leaders who has nothing to show for it fills their resumes with honorary degrees from aliens....

An honorary degree has no use after the day it has been presented to yah... it is like recognizing your presence and that's about it...

Moe we need to see your honorary degrees as well.... because you got nothing else to show...

You will be followed to the cleaners....

From The Sunday Times
September 12, 2004

"...For an academic institution, such populism would once have been unthinkable. Traditionally an honorary degree was a university’s way of marking excellence and achievement. Cambridge claims it only awards them to “members of the royal family, British subjects who are of conspicuous merit or have done good service to the state or to the university, and foreigners of distinction”. The roll call of those deemed sufficiently worthy by the university includes Albert Einstein, Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa and, this year, jazz musicians John Dankworth and Dame Cleo Laine.

The reason universities are willing to confer honours on celebrities is that both sides win. The university gets publicity by reaching out an academic hand of welcome to someone famous, while the personality gets to wear scarlet gowns with silk facings and soft black velvet bonnets — sometimes with a golden tassel....

The first occasion an honorary degree was awarded was in 1478 or 1479, to Lionel Woodville, dean of Exeter and brother-in-law of Edward IV. Oxford made him a doctor of canon law in a blatant bid to win the favour of a powerful man...."

Jamko,sorry my mistake,now ammended.

Janko you write posted a quote from a link part of which reads:"The first occasion an honorary degree was awarded was in 1478 or 1479, to Lionel Woodville, dean of Exeter and brother-in-law of Edward IV. Oxford made him a doctor of canon law in a blatant bid to win the favour of a powerful man...."

This is over 400 years ago ! Things havn't changed at all since then the basis is still the same.

The Gambia is a member state of the UN so has voting rights that can be powerful, this degree was awarded by Russia,I looked up THe Gambia at the UN and came up wth this page, most of it is empty except the government link:

You are right Toubab. The motive for awarding most of these degrees remains the same old scheme of winning favors from powerful people with deep pockets. Recently, IUFS awarded an honorary degree to Teodoro Obiang Nguema, the notoriously ruthless dictator of Equatorial Guinea and several other thugs like him from across the globe. Hence, their MO isn't surprising.

But, I don't think the Russian Government has anything to do with the University. Else, the least they could do is; recognize or accredit the university and make sure they have a campus to operate from. Their current "office" within a "house" is unworthy of a dignified university.

I lived in Leningrad for three months in the recent past and I can assure you that nothing good comes out of the run down area of Sovetskaya.

The president should seriously look into forming an office responsible for vetting out these fly-by-night praise singers. With the technology out there, it is relatively easy to conduct basic due diligence background checks.

My take:

My mistake I apologise, the link I gave is mostly blank concerning the Gambia except for The govenment button on the left .The Gambia has a vote at the UN a powerful organisation and I would have thought as this was about "The Gambia " more information should be there.

Karamba,
I refuse to accept that the Chairman would accept trash from every diploma mill that comes along. He already has all the titles even an Efulefu would aspire for.

Come on, it's like being a student at Banjul Academy or ICE, no one took them seriously.
