Tablighi Jamaat members denounce other Muslim sects - including the Taliban (in spite of their Deobandi similarities), Shiites and Kasmiri militant groups.

Tablighi are likewise denounced by others - surprisingly severely criticized by orthodox religious authorities (ulema), such as Sunni Wahhabi ulema in Saudi Arabia, who have issued fatwa prohibiting the Tablighis from preaching in the country and banning Tablighi literature from being imported into the country.

Suntu, r u able to explain the above fatwa & banning?

The biggest problem in my opinion is poverty and it does not get any better in Africa. My experiences in Gambia, it is the people who lost all hopes of life "Nerves beh Nerves satung" so they decided god had chosen their destiny for them, after coming in contact with the Merchants of religion. It gives them that lost hope and determination to follow gods will but all it takes is a ticket to London or America, The first thing to go is the Beard, and if it's a chick the Ebadou becomes one of those kinky articles of theirs, I seen Santa's sekim disappear right here in Bantaba. "Sekimey Saitan" disappears and then I would say life goes on once again. These are men lacking direction and motivation, only religion and the promise of a better future is appealing to them including the sty-pens I guess. I have met a few crazy ones who probably could not balance the propaganda vs reality so they went crazy roaming the streets worse than where they started from.............................................Peace

Very interesting post.

Hi Sab, if you have followed my notes, you will discover that, I explained the difference of dogma between the Tablighs and the folks you are calling Wahabi.
Interesting, the term Wahabi was devise to demonise the Saudi main stream dogma of Islam, hence I wouldn't call them as such.
The Salafis don't support the Tablighs for reasons I alluded to earlier. The Salafis encourage scholarship before preaching. It is like if other Christains advise Jehovah withnesses to learn more before preaching. It is all a difference of opinion.
The disagreement in methodology does not affect the religiosity of both parties. It is an ongoing task to interpret ways of relaying a message.
The Salafis encourage scholars to preach or devise structures that students can use to follow a simple methodology, this is why, they refer to themselves as students of knowledge.
The Tabligh founder was a deobandi which is a mystical form of Sufism, however, they distant themselves from that to simpler forms of preaching and living their faith. I do know that, those who have unnecessary fears of Muslims or Islam chareterise every group with suspicion, lies and distortions. This is life any way.
The Slafis and the Tablighs share a lot in common. The salafis sponsor students to learn more and then impath what they learn. Whilst the Tablighs preach the little they learn at a go.
The Fatwas are just opinions, they are not binding per say. Islam is about the worshiping of God as one, without a father, mother or son. It is about fearing God in all times and in every dealings. It not about the size of one's beard, or cloths. Hence, what people use to pump up fear and nonsence is just pure bigotry. Difference of opinion on Mualmat (minor acts)is in everything. This differences don't affect the Islam of people. It is like the different directions of political parties. They agree on more things than they made to believe. The Tablighs pray the same as the salafis, the sufis, etc. There is no difference in the ways all the foundamental act of Islam are carried out. The differences magnified are acts that whether one do or not does not invalidate your Islam. This is the main issue.
They are all aiming to reach higher level of spirituality. It is like being a Monk, you can be a perfectly good Christian without being calibate or a Monk. However, Both groups denounce militarist elements of political blend with religion. Tablighs don't even preach to non-Muslims much. They claim that, If muslims live Islam accordingly, it will reflect in their dealings. The cheating, lying and betrayals, etc are short comings that Islam can rectify if Muslims follow the teachings accordingly. But since we are humans, we are bound to err, and naturally, we should repent and adopt the best of ways. Thanks Sab.
