Prosecutors in The Gambia have charged the former heads of the navy and army with plotting to overthrow President Yahya Jammeh.
Former navy chief Sarjo Fofona and ex-army chief of staff Gen Langtombong Tamba are accused of being part of a 2006 alleged coup attempt.
Gen Tamba is already on trial alongside other army officials for his alleged part in a failed coup last year.
President Jammeh himself seized power in a coup in 1994.
He has since won three elections, amid opposition allegations of harassment.
Drugs link? His critics say his government is using allegations of coup plots to intimidate potential rivals and settle scores.
Some reports suggest the arrests may be linked to the recent seizure of more than two tonnes of cocaine in the country.
The two former military chiefs "refused or neglected to report [a coup plot] to the appropriate authorities within a reasonable period or time", prosecutors say, according to the AFP news agency.
Another group of senior military officials and businessmen was arrested in March and accused of planning to seize power.
Several people were sentenced to long prison terms over the 2006 coup attempt

There is a shift in attention on on-going treason to INDICT LANG TOMBONG TAMBA AT ALL COSTS. Lang's references to 2006 coup plot and had the chance to be a President ("if he wanted at that time") but was loyal to Jammeh, put him in HOT SOUP
They appear to have been frame on current treason trials as the prosecutor has been exposed making offers to stand as state witness or suffer the consequences as a victim. |

Kumi, thank you for your sincere observation.
They are all man eaters. Before better people come to know, they would have chopped their captain in pieces for dinner.
When some time ago it was written over this forum that Captain Jammeh and his gang pack together yet out to eat each other, we saw the muscle work, daggers flying around everywhere.
Today, it is captain Jammeh who says those who stood by him are now the same people looking to chop his head off. Let those who denied the observations then tell us now if captain Jammeh is wrong pointing fingers and getting his trusted ones behind bars.
For people in self denial, soon they will pile up other excuses. Beyond all doubts (even unreasonable doubts) Yaya Jammeh is on the whole the biggest betrayer of Gambians. He never declared his sources of illicit wealth and yet poses as a generous person throwing away money in all directions.
Captain Jammeh was long due for questioning. It was him that introduced higher scale grabbing. Those who pretended standing by him all the time thought they too could steal. Thus they expanded their territory of illicit money piling.
Now that all the beans are being spilt, it is everyone for themselves, nobody for captain or commander. That is how a house of straws fall to pieces.
More fame for Yaya Jammeh for the wrong reason. Coming days, weeks, and months will tell more. Too much false life in Gambia.
One person seen as so much Jammeh's man is now turned from Inspector General of Police IGP to being inspected as prisoner for drug crimes. Ensa Badjie sacked IGP told a court in in Gambia that Yaya Jammeh commissioned him as drug pusher. Jammeh has power to put Badjie in prison, and so he did. Clear example of one time good friend now turned into dead enemy.

This is the problem Karamba, The prosecution deduced that Jesus stated that he was selling dope for the president to prevent being arrested and investigated. The witnesses stated Jesus also told them so. Whats pathetic with both what you and Kumi are trying to insinuate is the bogus implications. Jesus Pleaded not Guilty to all the Charges. Meaning denying the allegations are you guys seriously retarded or just plain ignorant. Kumi is angry for several reasons and he knows it......................................................Peace

I am not angry with anybody. I just hate to see one person seize power and hold on to it,believing that he is the only person capable of leading the country. This is the problem we have in Africa. I was in Gambia and I witnessed how ordinary people were afraid to talk about Jammeh's rule. As in the days of Saddam Husein. A pure dictator behind democracy. What I hate most is that decent people like you who should stand against him are dancing to his music. Your days are numbered. He will pounce on you like a lion eating a mouse. He must be opposed. The seat is for all Gambians. Not his property. I only fear for the future of his family. When he is gone. |

Am glad your brought his family ties up/ innocent young Gambians who have absolutely no control of any situation. Ensuring their safety and security is every Gambians responsibility whether you despise Jammeh to an extent that his safety is questionable. Let me re assure you Kumi . Several convicts charged with serious crimes have attested to the fact that they were never tortured at mile two prisons. When the alleged coupist were to be executed it was Jammeh who stopped them. You cannot convince me that he is a murderer when the evidence proves other wise. Most of ya'll sitting here crying Jammeh the coupist but how many of you know of the coups Jammeh single handed stopped during the Jawara regime. Ya'll are oblivious of the security implications and insecurity at the time am assuming. Personally speaking what Jammeh did was bring stability to a region ready to explode and here we are blaming him for the countries woes. Thats why we have elections if anyone is worrried about the presidency , first you ask for the mandate of the people and if voted , change cannot be denied . I think you need to take your yard stick and start beating the Gambian population up, they keep voting him into office . Rumor mongering is the reason why Gambians are scared to talk or discuss the kind of politics they have been akin to, Of course the Law should be implemented where ever it's broken. Slander and defamatory statements with no evidence to back up your assertion is equivalent to LIES. One question how can someone who is in no way associated with me pounce on me like a lion and his prey?............................................Peace |

No better way of putting it, Kumi. Moe knows the truth. His heart and hand are running in diamerically opposite directions. He knows this will not last. Moe is less dangerous than the rest. At least, he is reasonable and that is a big take. |
