Society Watch: Threats to Kill!
Threats shouldn't be taken lightly, despite who utters them, and to whom they were made. In this case, a mother was threatened by her son. I am sure, there is a story and two faces to a coin on the "He-said, she said." The threats of a son to kill his mother sounds too much to me.
On the side of the parent, and in favor of the boy, I only hope she didn't provoke her son for the over-kill, to have stimulated such a reaction from him. I don't know...I don't know! Either way, the threats to kill cannot still be justified. It could be that the crime of murder has been aborted.
If the reported story is to go, then the boy needs some help, and thereafter to be united with his family. Whatever happened to morality nowadays! Society was such that elders (parents) were respected, to the extent, you don't even talk back at them, much more think of hurting them. It is no more in most parts -that is to say society lost some part of that. How sad!

WoW....I must admit that I was very shocked when I read this,it I think a case where the boy has lost his temper and does not know what he was doing, boys are like that when they get totally frustrated by events, they don't know how to express themselves,I take it that the son was not really a boy but a youth, there is no mention of his age in the report,in The Gambia, there is a lack of affordable entertainment for youths, who suffer from an excess of testorone as well.Dalton1 feels that there is hope for a family reconcilation in the future,I doubt that,a nine month sentence in Mile 2 with a family who are unlikely to bring in food for their son to suplement his allowence from the prison authorities.I think that the sentence is too severe, although I am only aware of the report in the Point, there may well be other factors for the magistrate to impose such a severe sentence. If this "boy" was to go to prison 7 days to reflect on his actions should have been enough. |

2bab,
Excellent provoking thoughts, though I think there is an opportunity to recover this young man.
We may ask further, are drugs involved? Is it some mental isssues? Was it anger-problem? Was it an over reaction like you pointed out? Was it a repel ? etc...These can be easier to deal with after all party players regret their partake to the unfortunate incident.
In anyway, thanks. You told me before you are reggae fan. & now Lucky is missing in action in South Africa.
& you know I dislike politics, just like you. too much idiocy in politics sometimes...ooops! excuse my french. I don't know why some politicians will never think like mathematicians. Equations must be balanced!!
Have a great day !

Sorry Dalton1 ,not reggae but proper Blues from the 30's,and je ne parle frances? saulment, franglais !
I don't know if this "boy" was represented,if he was and the circumstances of the offence warrant it,I should have thought that there are grounds for an appeal against sentence, but without further information about what happened that might not be the course of action to take, and it is most likley that the "boy" is jobless and has no money to fund an appeal,is there any legal aid in Gambia?

2bab,
You definately have a third eye. I agree with you that if he was busy with work, school, etc...he would have had less time to quarrel with the women in the house. I don't know about the legal system in the Gambia...that much, especially with legal representation, but I know in America, the 6th amendment stipulates right to counsel representation for every defendant. If you are poor (below standard guidelines), you are assigned to a public defender. Maybe it works in a similar way in the Gambia. The legal minds and constitutional gurus might know.
thanks, yj |
