Dear All,

I am happy to confirm that UDP-UK has contributed D100, 000 towards the 11th-13th June 2010 UDP Jarra Soma Congress. We are expecting an acknowledgement letter from the party's Secretariat soon, a copy of which will be sent to all members and interested persons as soon as possible.

I would also like to seize this opportunity to thank all those who have contributed to this fund, and I urge you all to keep it coming and encourage many more people to do the same. Well-done and keep it up.

Kind regards

SS Daffeh

UDP-UK, praiseworthy is good intention
Putting your money where your mouth is, is not a bad idea.
Hopefully this will be a wakeup call for the Jankos to talk less and participate more directly in adhering to the need of those insistently on the ground.

Dear Janko,

Thanks for your comments. You are right; we have had too much of the talking and absolutely no action. It is about time we do the walking as well. The Mr. Bigmouths must now emulate the UDP-UK by putting their hands where their mouth is or forever shut-up. Those who are not doing anything have no right to criticise the opposition for they have by default, relinquish ownership of the future destiny of their country, the Gambia.

Kind regards

Nyarikangbanna,

The raising of such an amount towards this important event for UDP is true show of solidarity on the part of the party's UK members. It is a progessive move worth emulating. Well done for standing your firm grounds. There is so much to learn from this.

It is also encouraging that party leader Darbo accepts opening to challenges and prepared to support anyone that ends up being selected. From your regular postings, you are totally vindicated.

Well done Nyarikangbanna. The gains by far exceed financial intakes.

Thanks Karamba for your warm comments. I can assure you that UDP-UK is determined to do many of this kind in the near future. We still got a lot of work to do. It is not an easy one but we are making tremendous progress. If you want to get involve, please e-mail gambiaforall@googlemail.com.

Nyarikangbanna,

One good point to take home about the whole thing is how you embrace due legal process in seeking clear mandate from Gambian voters. Use of arms in seizing political power is wrong, no matter however long that illegal occupation.

If you wish to be elected then you MUST have policies in place on which the electorate can vote,The Electorate should not vote for personalities but for policies,I have not seen any publication that shows ANY policies from ANY of the canditates.Do published policies exist?
This whole topic gives the impression of back slapping for managing to find funds to attend a congress, any published agenda for the congress? For instance KARAMBA (not picking on him honestly ) wrote, "The raising of such an amount towards this important event for UDP is true show of solidarity on the part of the party's UK members. It is a progessive move worth emulating. Well done for standing your firm grounds. There is so much to learn from this." What on earth do these words mean, being a simple soul can you translate please.

Toubab1020,

I have no clue about what happens with the funds raised. All I'm reacting to is the fact that a body of people (UDP-UK) came together to raise funds as contribution towards an occasion (party congress). With no knowledge of what happened before and after, I would not risk commenting any further.

For now, I stand by my position that UDP-UK raising funds is a true show of solidarity.

May be when your enquiry leads up to revealing what happens with the funds, be kind enough to share that information too.

From what I have read through the posting of Nyarikangbanna, there has been a good effort that desrerves emulation. I stand on that upright.

This is not a fair comment. In the lead up to the 2006 election, all the parties published their programmes and policies. In any case, unless you can show that you own a stake in opposition politics by putting your hand in the process, you have no right to criticise for you have by default, relinquish ownership as a Gambian [that is if you are a Gambian]. So it is better that you don't know published opposition policies exist.

If you want to be heard, you must take ownership by either donating to the opposition or canvass for votes for them. Otherwise, you may forever hold your peace as you have no right or credibility to criticise.

Kind regards

Well.......... I have heard it all now....I just quote your words in the posting below,

"This is not a fair comment. In the lead up to the 2006 election, all the parties published their programmes and policies. In any case, unless you can show that you own a stake in opposition politics by putting your hand in the process, you have no right to criticise for you have by default, relinquish ownership as a Gambian [that is if you are a Gambian]. IN my eyes your reply has caused severe damage to whatever party you represent as I assume that you have the authority to speak for that party,If I was a voter in The Gambian Elections I would think long and hard before I voted for such a party

Toubab1020,

I do not have authority to speak for any party but I do have authority to speak about the state of affairs of Gambian politics as a legitimate stakeholder who is putting his hand where his mouth is and have not relinquish ownership in default. Win or loose, I can stand up and say I have done my bit, come 2011.

Yes, I am an executive member of UDP-UK but this is not an organ of any opposition party in the Gambia. It is only an affiliated body to the United Democratic Party. If you are in doubt or little bit confused, please revisit our mission statement. If you are irritated by my previous comment then I got news for you; I am not here to appease anybody but to continue to speak the truth as it is regardless of anything. Therefore,I am standing by my comments. We've had too much of this kind of silly banter here. It is about time we become action oriented and do something about the issues. If you are not up for that, then you should forever keep your peace and save us from unmerited criticisms and silly comments since you lack both the authority and credibility to criticise.

I can promise you this; if you contribute even a penny to the UDP-UK or choose to canvass votes for the UDP, I will make sure you are given the opportunity to speak to the UDP leadership and convey your criticisms directly to them. You will be surprised about their level of tolerance, objectivity and openness. I am sure other parties will accord you the same opportunity should you choose to donate or canvass for them.

Kind regards

Nyarikangbanna,You appear to be a person who has donated money to a cause you believe in,no problem with that, your words clarify some of my concerns that I expressed in my posting:
You write.

"I do not have authority to speak for any party but I do have authority to speak about the state of affairs of Gambian politics as a legitimate stakeholder who is putting his hand where his mouth is and have not relinquish ownership in default. Win or loose, I can stand up and say I have done my bit, come 2011."

You also write:

"Yes, I am an executive member of UDP-UK but this is not an organ of any opposition party in the Gambia. It is only an affiliated body to the United Democratic Party. If you are in doubt or little bit confused, please revisit our mission statement."

I take this to mean that UDP-UK is a fund raising "affiliated body " of the United Democratic Party

Also you write:

"I am not here to appease anybody but to continue to speak the truth as it is regardless of anything."

Who are you trying to appease me ? my enquiry was as to the policies of those who seek to be elected, you put yourself forward to speak for those who were seeking election, something that you have now corrected.I have never put myself forward as having "authority and credibility to criticise." If you read what I have written it was an enquiry as to policies that were going to be voted upon by those seeking election, and a statement that I had never seen such policies published, the reply from yourself was to refer me to "our mission statement" published in a newspaper ? on a website ?,you provided no information where I could read this document.
You are entitled to your opinion as I am to mine, and to enter into a discussion with the following wording does not help your cause one little bit, read what you wrote in your response to me,presumably written when you were so angry that someone should actually make an enquiry as to what you stood for, I am certain that upon reflection you will find that you should have used different words as "an executive member of UDP-UK " a position that you are proud to hold, read what you responded here:

"We've had too much of this kind of silly banter here. It is about time we become action oriented and do something about the issues. If you are not up for that, then you should forever keep your peace and save us from unmerited criticisms and silly comments since you lack both the authority and credibility to criticise."

The use of such angry words hardly instill confidence in your organisation that is unwilling or unable to answer a simple enquiry into what policies the United Democratic Party are standing on.
I look forward to reading your civil reply.

I will only help your comments if you show committment to the course by either donating money or canvassing votes for the UDP. Otherwise, you have to contact them yourself but from my personal point of view, I think it is better you don't know since it will make no difference even if you know. I suppose that is another blunt language but there is no better way of putting it. People should now mean business, not banter.

Notwithstanding my apologies, I still maintain that those who are not putting their hand in the course by either donating or canvassing votes for the opposition have no right or credibility to criticise since they have relinquished ownership by default. People must deliver their own end of the bargaining before they can ask anything from the opposition.

Kind regards

Hmmm,as only an interested party (no pun intended )in Gambia and all things Gambian and the well know fact that "I strongly dislike politics" I shall not donate money or canvas votes for ANY political party, as I am not part of the Gambian Electorate and leave my enquiry as unanswered,...........unless..........maybe someone else would like to answer
