"My Private Part Disappears" By Kebba Y. Drammeh
A drama unfolded recently at Brikama when one Alhagie Secka accused a 52-year old man, Serign Faal of snatching his private part only for hospital results to instead fault Mr. Secka himself.
Mr. Secka took Serign Faal to Brikama police station, accusing him of snatching his manhood using supernatural powers.
Serign Faal, 52, was arrested and detained for over an hour.
After a medical examination, it was found that the problem was with Mr. Secka himself. The hospital records shows that this was the second time that Mr. Secka accused people of snatching his manhood.
Police then arrested him for giving false information and the accused was released. "He just wasted my time and tarnish my image," Serign said. "How can I do such?"

In the eyes of some people this report may be seen as strange and very curious, however to Mr Secka he considers it extremly serious as he genuinely believes that supernatural powers are able to do such things,I would like a Muslim court to try this case ,as a magistrates court will not be able to safisfactorly convince Mr Secka that his alligation was unfounded,a Muslim court will be able to offer a great deal more support to Mr Secka as they understand matters of faith and conviction Mr Secka does not believe that he gave false information to the police.KAY what say you ? |

To a Western eye this seems very strange. The person would probably be considered mentally unstable. I don't think it has anything to do with the Muslim faith More to do with superstition and an unstable mind.

"sensitive handling is needed. Compassion, not punishment," exactly
The point I was trying to get across was that Mr Secka (who I presume is a Muslim) may need help but as he will appear in a magistrates court charged with a criminal offence(Presumably)then justice cannot be done as the defendant holds very strong views (he believes in supernatural powers)a Muslim court deals with matters of faith i.e. strongly held beliefs, therefore that is a place where the matter could be better understood and any guidence given by the learned clerics.I don't believe that Mr. Secka thought that the information that he gave was false,he really believed that Mr Faal had snatched his "his private part". In any event the magistrate has quite a bit of thinking to do to solve this unusual case,or better still let the police give him a caution and a night in the cells, then let him go on his way.

The " Samboo snatching" ordeal is a bizarre superstition, form of mind insecurity (mental case). In the early 90s, it was mongered more. I remember in 96/97, it was alleged that a certain man and group will shake hand with you, and snatch the "Samboo" from a man -created a charged atmosphere. While walking around, shaking hands (greeting) being a common thing in the Gambia because of culture and hospitality was reduced. Often the perpetrators demanded money in return for your "samboo". Some cases were dismissed at the RVH upon medical examination.
I believe it is a combination of magic (tricks) to the ones that allegedly do it, together with mind-set (halucination) of the one it is cast on. Either way, it is rubbish. It has nothing to with any religion. It is not new as well.

Yes of course Kay,there is no dispute about that as far as I am concerned, all I was trying to shed light on was that this man needs help and that if genuinely believed that this had happened to him then he told the right people, who should have perhaps used better judgement before proceeding to take action on his allegation. In other words used their common sense, but any confusion in The Gambia is exciting and away from the boredom of struggling for survival.

i don't think religious people could be of much help, they may rather share his belief or further mystify issues for him . But I like your statement below a lot better:

Actually they do Kay. President of South Africa, Joseph Zuma (The Julu man) better not hear Eve make these sarcastic jokes here because she won't have a visa or transit through South Africa for the World Cup soccer.
