I was watching a documentary about kenya a couple a weeks ago, but unfortunatly only caught the last 15 minutes. But it showed how a town had grown around a huge "rubbish tip". There the children and adults scavenged for what they could find - even mouldy food. A few miles away the government were having a meeting, and the reporter counted politicians arriving in 18 mercedes Benz.

This is the sort of story people quote to me about Afrcia all the time when trying to put me off doing anything to help.
Even some of my own family say 'whats the point when their own government doesnt help? Why should I give my hard earned cash?'

Some African governments dont do their own people any favours.

KISLEY

You have not seen anything yet. That is the best part of Kenya you saw. Kenya is more corrupt than any country in east Africa. That is their trademark. In Nigeria, president Abacha bought a new private jet as a birthday present to his brother in-law.

Welcome to Africa. Yet millions of Nigerians are dieing of curable diseases and in fact waiting in lines for fuel when they are the fifth largest supplier of oil to the United States. AFRICA IS A LAND OF SCARCITY IN THE MIDST OF PLENTY. POVERTY IN THE MIDST OF ABUNDANCE. AM REALLY EMBARASSED BY MY OWN PEOPLE. GOOD FOR NOTHING, ROUND BELLIED, STIFF-NECKED FOOLS PLUNDERING THEIR NATIONS WEALTH.

In Kenya, a national Assembly member is paid more that 5000.00 United Sates Dollars a month. All of them were given car loans of over 25, 000.00 US Dollars to but Mercedes Benz cars. Their complaints were the money is too small to but a descent car.

I HAVE A VERY RADICAL SOLUTION. LET EVERY BODY STOP HELPING AFRICA. WHEN THE PEOPLE GET PUSHED TOO FAR, THERE WILL BE MASS REVOLUTIONS. MANY WILL BE SACRFICED BUT EVENTUALLLY THE LITTLE LEFT ROAMING THE CONTINENET WILL FOREVER BE REMINDED THAT BAD GOVERNANCE DOES NOT PAY AND WILL MAKE SUE THAT IT DOES NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. NO MORE AID TO AFRICA. IT ONLY ENDS IN THE POCKETS OF POLITICIANS.

“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always.”

kisley, you need not look further than home. Do you see what happens around the Bakoteh dump site? Africans do not have good intensions for each other. The level of suffering in Africa is not due to inferior of economic resources but due to pathetic political will to change things for every African.

Today my fathers produce in lying in the house because the government cannot buy it due to lack of funds and yet the government is planning to spend millions only to host the stupid AU leaders. What is the difference between these scenarios?
