My favorite Gambian has gone, I wonder what the reason is? no one is talking, I for one will miss this great man's common sense and dedication to fairness and justice, he has done an excellent job, but now maybe feels that he cannot continue, this may be the reason that there is no information, perhaps he just resigned, who knows.
This from The government newspaper The Daily Observer:
http://observer.gm/africa/gambia/article/justice-moses-richards-removed
Justice Moses Richards removed Africa » Gambia Tuesday, April 27, 2010 Justice Moses Richards of the Special Criminal Court (SCC) in Banjul has been relieved of his position as high court judge effective Friday, April 23rd, 2010, the Daily Observer can reveal.
Although no reason was publicly advanced for his removal, this reporter reliably gathered that the SCC judge was handed his marching order at about 08:00 am on Friday. When contacted, the acting judicial secretary, John Belford confirmed the removal of Justice Richards.

I know Toubab. I felt sorry about this one; and I immediately thought about you also. I Jammeh's Gambia, you have to do exactly the way he wants it. The Nigerian judges know better |

Kobo, I like your new anthem. You should propose this to the Sheik; it will get you a visit to the State House and the Sheik will buy it too for a hansome price |

I MET HIM AND HE TOOK NO PRISONS, more judges like him are needed. You have to ask straight questions and deal with the consequences which he did. He was a good judge and knew the law. |

He refused to appear for Femi Peters stay of proceedings application hearing even though he reported to work that day and had himself slated the date. May be he was threatened. I don't know.
Kind regards |

Whatever the reason,I feel that his sacking, resignation, or for what ever reason he left his bench vacant in the special criminal court,it is a VERY sad day for The Gambia,I really hope that he will return very soon and continue to dispense fairness and justice to the people. For my money he has always showed what can be done for Africa within the shambles that in some countries passes for a legal system, with many legal practioners failing to take their profession seriously, he dispensed justice in his court with a good heart and always started with an open mind. I will miss him and his sensible judgements very much.I also happy that on whatever side of the fence the posters on Bantaba sit none has written about any bad thing that he has ever done.
