I THINK the rainy season will have started. It will be humid and lots of mossis........ Tourist season is Oct to May for a reason!!!
I want to have a trip in rainy season sometime. Gambia is beautiful then..and quiet...also you will bring dls at a time when they are really needed. |

Are you sure the rainy season starts that early, they would not hold the roots festival and AU during rainy season. Another reason the tourist season is oct to may is economics. from may to september tourists have other sunny destinations to go to. Children are on holiday, packages are cheap and plentiful, think turkey, greece, spain portugal. In October they are quiet. I do agree that to travel out of season is nice. what I do not understand is the costs. Not one hotel changes their prices. It will be 1000 dls a night to stay at cape point hotel. Someone on the bantaba made a point that few of the hotels can be booked online. Yes you can do a deal before yu travel but your phone bill will be high. |

Well there are 2 ways with addictions....'cold turkey' ie no Bantaba or Gambian web sites for a month! Or the other choice is to feed the obsession ie lots and lots of holidays to Gambia to get it out of your system!
Sorry, but in bad cases like yours and mine...nothing appears to work. You have to learn to live with it as part of your life. |

I was in Gambia last July (2nd week) and the "rainy season" had just begun. It rains mainly at night time for a couple of hours and is truly spectacular - the lightning storms are an amazing sight!!!. Gambiabev is right about the mossis, indeed all sorts of bugs make their appearance. It didnt bother me too much but Im sure it would not be to the taste of some. The tourist area was very quiet, the beach almost deserted, it was wonderful!!! When I first visited Gambia I wondered why the season was so short and then I realised that Gambia Experience controlled the entire market. Thats changing though and for the past 2 years a Spanish tour operator has been bringing in tourists during the summer. |

dave that is interesting about the spanish tourist market when i was last there found that some east european companies mainly travel agents were on a fact finding mission there hopefullythey will come. Anything that breaks the GE tour operator helps. I do think some of the hotel could reduce the prices and allow people to book online. Jede stick with the addiction. |
