The bigwigs of NADD are to be attentively listened to or read from. Below is culled from The Point of today. Read and fathom.
NADD Govt to Fight Poverty, Ignorance - Sidia Jatta Tuesday 9th May 2006
By Abba A.S. Gibba
As the nation moves into the peak of parliamentary and presidential elections, a leading and sound political bigwig in the camp of the National Alliance for Democracy and Development (NADD) has proclaimed that a NADD government in The Gambia will provide excellent conditions for people to improve their living standard and salvage themselves from the decades of abject poverty in the country.
Hon. Sidia Jatta made this proclamation on Sunday at a rally organised by NADD in Kafuta in the run-up to the forthcoming by-elections in Kombo East.
According to Hon. Jatta, their first priority would be to educate the populace about their rights so that they are empowered to lead a fruitful and joyful life.
He said NADD, without fail, would pay close attention to building a rich, powerful, independent, sovereign and democratic state, as well as giving hope of national prosperity to the people of The Gambia.
The National Assembly member for Wuli West, who his party supporters describe as a humble, genuine and committed son of the soil to the cause of developing The Gambia, said: “We need a genuinely democratic government that is capable of fulfilling the desires of the entire Gambian people.”
Hon. Jatta said Gambia is the only country without lucrative industries to provide even its basic essential commodities for local consumption. “Everything here in The Gambia is foreign,” he added.
He pointed out that they, as a party seeking the good and welfare of Gambians, would dedicate their lives in serving the people and devote their energies, talents and techniques in the construction and development of industries for the rapid and sustainable development of the country and the people.
Hon. Jatta maintained that they have entered into politics not to exploit the people or enrich themselves but to work with the people and develop the nation for the good and betterment of all because of the love they have for the country.
“In The Gambia we don’t have a monarchy but an elected person who should be the people’s servant,” the seasoned politician said.
Talking about the forthcoming by-election in Kombo East, Mr Jatta called on the electorate to be conscious and be clear about whom to vote into the National Assembly.
In conclusion, he urged the Gambian people to be attending National Assembly debates or sessions, at least once on a while, to hear for themselves what their representatives are saying or doing on their behalf.
Other senior NADD politicians who spoke at the rally included Lamin Waa Juwara, Landing Jallow Sonko and Mrs Amie Sillah.
