In the bushes of Africa, we heard the loud echoes of the midget –Kondorong guarding the calves, alongside the peaceful white egrets’ birds in the graze land meadows and valleys with breezes Kris-crossing in all directions.
In the bushes of Africa, we heard the gentle walk of the midget –Kondorong friendly and mannered in nature sizing up the cows’ tails with cuts while still loving them on the graze hills and valleys.
In the bushes of Africa, we heard the all-powerful wrestler of times –Kondorong wrestling the people of the land during the wrestling season and falling them to the ground while still loving them.

For those familiar with Gambian culture, there are a lot of mysterious about the ‘Kondorong’, known as “Kudayneh” in Pular. Shepherds believe that Kondorong actually chop-off the tails of cows, though a belief that it happens to be the best shepherd to the cows in the bushes. Others traditionally inclined believe that the Kondorong is big time wrestler that doesn’t get a fall to the ground. In the poem above, I tried to capture those characteristics, and as a tribute to the missing ‘retreated’ Kondorong.
