Food for thought:
One of the main problem of the Bantaba participants is that many of the members condone "tribal" lebel and are purporting to struugle against this CANCER.
1. In this modern day of global progress, do we need a tribal label inorder to progress?
2. Is there any hinderance in this line of thought?
3. Do we need to reject EVIL through EVIL? By crying for vengence against others?
4. Is it possible for us to see ourselves as human beings with a diverse and rich cultural heritage while inventing even a richer and more advance culture?
5. Are we not stagnant in trying to cling on to the past while inventing noting for a progressive future?
6. Some say that, Racism, Tribalism, Feminism and all the ISMS are there to identify the narrow-minded, greedy, arogant, un-conscious, retrogressive, oppressive people among other evils. I wonder if this is true about some of us?

Biraago, u seem to be echoing what a friend of mine, the one I mentioned earlier in some of my postings, keeps saying about net forums. He keeps saying there are contributors in forums that are very good in presenting other sides of themselves. Am beginning to realize that.
On the subject of this CANCER called tribalism, we neithr have to romaticise the problem nor sweep it under the carpet. Tribalism must be critically reviewed to properly deal with it. People who run away from it, they condone it and its' really tomenting their lives. |

Gambiabev,
Fortunately, I am very clear in what I meant.
The word FEMININ in Greek is refered to a group (who are identified by their biological characteristic called sexual organ) as being LESS-BELIEVERS. Fe means belief and Minus mean less. So you see why I can't identify my sisters and mother as LESS BELIEVERS.
Bamba, You seem to have been a teacher at one time.
I would like you to give your opinion of each of my specific questions if you could. |

1. We dont need a tribal label to progress. Maybe that's why we are retrogressing in black Africa. Politics in black Africa is tribally labelled.
2.The hinderance in this line of thought is probably what gambia is going thru now.
3.Evil plus evil doesnt equal to good. Vengeance begets vengeance and escalates to mayhem.
4.To see ourselves as humans with tolerated and accomodated diversities with a view for/to inventing a richer and advanced culture. It's not impossible if there is a global will for it.
5. The past(yesterday) is supposed to prepare tomorrow, and tomorrow in turn prepares the day after. If the past insists on taking the roles of both tomorrow and the day after, tomorrow will never see the light of the day.
The sixth, Biraago, I implore for it be dished to other listmembers plates. Am getting to know Bantaba very well now. |

A Gambian....,OK that wouldn't work would it, what language should the new Gambian speak, Jola, Mandinka or perhaps one of the many other languages that exist in our country..........English perhaps?..........that is now the world language unless you happen to be french of course!!! Just a thought!

Thanks Biraago for helping out with food for thoughts as I wanted to defend myself from certain personal attacks for expressing my conscience and frustration with some misleading elements and certain statements promoting insecurity, puting Gambians so low and backward or very crude in their quest to address issues. These words do inspire me to rest my case in the interest of peace, tranquility and progress. I repeat who the cap fit let them wear it! |

Biraago, I would like to subscribe to some your questions quoted within my limitations as token to boost the debates and challenges we are working on to sort out.
1. Globalisation and integration dictates the new world order at macro level and at micro level we can consider living as a family and community where certain common norms or moral values at play are love, tolerance, understanding, unity, survival and protection. I don't think "tribal label" in whatever form its translated or meant, can help with any progress because its crude and outdated.
2. I find it hard to understand whether "tribal label" fits in any context for the human race as labelling is more suitable for commercial products and merchandising to differentiate them. Of course there is hinderance to this line of thought, because it makes society stagnant and backward. |

How right Kobo,
But unfortunately, many of our compatriots are not very much inclined to seeking for the solutions of our common divergencies. Most would just into the bandwagon inorder to attack each other using these outdated references.
This is why our continent is facing tremendous upheavels in keeping up with globalised development strategies.
As lonf as we continue in this manner of thought and action, we shall always be the ones draged by others.
It is paremount to our development that, those who have progressive world view make collective effort based on concret actions to carry the banner of progress to the highest heights despite all the difficulties on the road to success. |

Thats our challenges and we must be resolute to promote the message "One Gambia, One People, One Nation, One Destiny" as advocated in another simple topic posted "We are all Gambians". I always take solace and inspiration from each single word of our classical national anthem; which to me is a basis for development and a good constitution.
Finally am appealing to the Admin. or moderator to culled forward the Gambia national anthem to reflect and see that the answers are there to guide us towards the common good. |

You remind me of a radio programme by Lalo Samateh called One gambia, One nation One People. What a history. We have come a long way since 1994. History always reapeats itself through people. You are certainly a great mind. |

It is sad that certain ideals are always misused by the reactionaries.
The late Attoney General, Minister of justice, Lamin Saho was the one who started the program on Radio Gambia to propagate for the victory of the PPP after the foiled 1981 Coup D'Etat.
He was a very cruel soul at that moment in time. |

i think the reason why tribalism is so prevalent is because we're not tribes. as a Mandinka/Manjago, i don't consider being a Mandinka/Manjago as being from a tribe. i am part of a people, an ethnic group just like the spanish are, or the french. even though we were all grouped together and basically forced to live together, i think once people start respecting that we're not just tribes but our own people, we can move on from there and work together, but throwing everyone together and say lets all be Gambians is insulting. its like telling the french, spanish, portuguese to put behind what they really are and just be europeans. and even that would probably be easier for them since they HAVE a choice in the matter.
putting feminism as one of the evils we need to get rid of is sooo ignorant. why are some african men so treathen by their women or by women period. grow up! |

Kassma,
I am sorry but it seems that you are not following, don't understand or totally out of touch with reality.
In the first place: Every European country and particularly the ones you've named are just as divided as we are. Did'nt you know that the French and Spanish English and the other Lingua Francas in Europe were imposed through a series of wars of annahilation and ethnic cleansing in some cases.
Are you aware that the Basque who live between Spain and France, like many oteh groups with distict languages are still fighting for seperation because of dominance from other groups.
Secondly, do you think that our mothers and sisters should be termed as people who belief less than the men?
The word Feminism is pejorative and against the struggle of our sisters and mothers against feudalism and dominace by some men.
