Once again a breath of fresh air blows through the corridors of power in The Gambia, hats off to His Honour Judge Moses Richards.

This deserves to be printed in full:
Thursday, 10 December 2009 Justice Moses Richards of the Special Criminal Court in Banjul yesterday made scintillating disclosures of some irregularities which had taken place at the Kanifing magistrates court.
Justice Richards of the special court had summoned the former assistant registrar of the Kanifing magistrate court Kanjura Sambou to explain to the special court why so many bail bonds were executed without undergoing the proper procedure. Justice Richards said some bail bonds in some case files were either left blank without contact addresses of the sureties and some bail bonds were irregularly executed by the assistant registrar of the court.
Justice Richards said since the present principal registrar, Abdou Conteh, left the Kanifing magistrates court, that court has gone through a turbulent period. Justice Richards who told the court that whilst he was a magistrate at the said lower court, he had warned several staff to be careful, committed, disciplined and dedicated to their job, lamented the fact his advice fell on deaf ears.
Justice Richards said the court was a mess between 2005 and 2007. Justice Richards told the court that during those years, the then assistant registrar and his predecessor, one Mr Alli just walked away for almost one year and were being paid. He said what the said Alli did in Kanifing cannot be accounted for and nobody contacted him to come and account for the wrong he did, but those protected him are now being prosecuted for embezzlement at the judiciary.
Justice Richards said whilst he was at the said court as a magistrate, he was asked to send a case file of one of the staff of the judiciary to the then chief justice. He disclosed that the staffs were alleged to have been involved in a misappropriation, stealing by clerk or servant.
Justice Richards told the court that he didn#146;t send the file to the then chief justice, but after trying the judicial staff he sent the file. Justice Richards remarked that justice is the last beacon of hope for the ordinary man. He also disclosed that one of the court clerks involved in financial malpractices at the said court later proceeded to read law and is now a magistrate.
